If I got an Ipod that I'm done many CD into it, but now I like to use an computer for it. How do I get the Ipod to see the Itunes without removing all those CD's, so I can add to the Ipod?

Can you rephrase the question, or translate it.

Are you saying you now have an iPod that already has a number of CDs loaded on it, and you would like iTunes on your computer to recognize, and copy onto the computer, the CDs that are installed on the iPod?

    Or something else?

That's one of the reasons I switched to MediaMonkey and gave iTunes the boot.
Unfortunately, (unless they have changed) that is how iTunes functions. When you sync, it wipes the device and reloads what you have selected.

I would just re-rip the cds using iTunes, if that's what you prefer. If you want to transfer them without re-ripping, just this once- load up the free version of MM, http://www.mediamonkey.com/ you can sync FROM your iPod to your computer. Then you can add those songs to your iTunes library, and carry on from there.

How did you get the cds onto your device in the first place? (if not iTunes)

I re-rip or re-done Itunes to many times for whatever reason. I hate to do it again, that's why I asked about it.

I would guess they are trying to prevent easy file copying by people passing their iPods around and copying the songs from the iPod to the computer. I wonder if somebody has developed a shareware program to bypass that.

it can be done. It requires that you have the old computer on hand and a hex editor. You'll need the itunes library files and the itunes something.xml.

In the xml file, you'll find an id number... copy this from both old and new xml files. Open up the ittunes library.lib file (new one) with a hex editor (I use HXD) and search for the NEW id number. Replace this with the old one, and boom.. you're done.

I do this every time I reload someones computer and they have itunes. You can do this for multiple computers, and copy music from both/many

Well the old computer thing is the problem.... I half built a HTPC, I'm using the old computer case, DVD, and Power supply. So motherboard, and hard drive are out and getting dust.

Or you can back the songs up, let Itunes wipe it and start fresh. You can also use Copytrans which will let you add music to it without wiping it. It will allow you to work multiple libraries as well .

Doesn't seem like a bad program but again a $20 thing. Which maybe easier in the long run...

If you plug in a drive as a secondary, it will simply load up as another drive... d.. e... whatever. This will allow you to navigate to E:\Users\[username]\My Music\Itunes and copy the itunes music library.xml

all you need is that id number, then you just change it on the new one

So I been playing a little with the idea of having my HTPC be part of my main computer. After playing with a rip CD I re-thought about this Itune stuff, I will be doing this Itunes on the older computer. I like the HTPC for any video HDMI output, but making this 2 channel also doesn't work so well. I can make the HDMI output 2 channel on the AVR but I like my 2 channnel to be working on the Conrad Johnson PV-5 pre amp that skip over the AVR. If I added a front channel audio output to the pre-amp it kills the HDMI output when watching a movie from the AVR. So making the HTPC for everything isn't a great idea.

I play the Ipod from the PV-5 pre-amp, which outputs to the whole house receiver from the record output of the pre-amp. I was trying to see if the computer DAC was better then the Ipod DAC. In the future I may do that with a Iport, to work the whole house receiver.
