B&K AV5000 for LSI9s

I am considering buying an AV5000 and I would like to know if anyone knows if it will have what it takes to competently run LSI9s with a subwoofer crossed at 60hz. Does anyone have experience with this amplifier? Would it leave a lot to be desired? Thanks

    The av5000 is a wonderful amp. I suggest 80hz and let the woofer to the rest. Nothing will be left to be desired other then your hot **** system.

    I believe Dan means good hot, not overheating hot... and I concur that the B&K will more than adequately handle the 9's.

    Only caution I'd offer is that the 9's are a laid back speaker and B&K makes very mellow amps. I'm sure the combo would not engage me, but it may well be nirvana for you.

    Thanks for the replies. After playing with the set up a bit I noticed that av5000 provided cleaner mids and bass when compared to my yamaha rx-v765. There is more separation which is what I expected. I was hoping for punchier bass after connecting the speakers to the amplifier, but I suppose that's asking for too much (the subwoofer will have to stay for music).

    My comparisons were done by connecting the L speaker to the amplifier, connecting the R speaker directly to the receiver, playing mono source material, and using the L-R balance to listen to the appropriate component.

    The volme coming from the amplifier seemed to be significantly quieter than the volume from the receiver (for the same receiver volume setting). It is easily remedied with the speaker level settings. I had to adjust the level to -9.5db for the speaker connected to the receiver to get them to the same approximate sound level (I dont have an SPL meter). Is the volume difference normal/expected?


    I think Mantis literally meant that my system would be hot. This amplifier gets very hot. The bottom is almost too hot too much after a few minutes of playing.
