Hello, just a quick breakdown to let you know where I'm at. I have decided to change my home theater speakers because it's been 5 years and the wife gave the thumbs up. The current SVS setup I have is great but I have heard nothing but great reviews about the RTi A line so I wanted to try them. I ordered a pair of RTi A5's and a pair of Rti A3's for the rears and a CSi A6 for the center all dressed in black. I'm keeping the SVS sub as it has cracked the seams in my drywall and I don't think it's necessary to destroy the house any further by upgrading in that area. I will be upgrading the display and avr later this year. I have done my research on the RTi A line but I can't seem to find a suggested break in for the speakers, I actually read that there is no break in but I wanted to get some opinions here so I dont end up recalibrating everything every few days. Also is the 10g wire I have enough for these or should I upgrade that area as well? And anything else I should know to get the best experience out of these speakers.
Thank You In Advance

Haha, I have no doubt they might end up going to a community college as my craving for HT increases, although I would still like them to attend state so I'm trying to slow down. Thank you for the advice on letting the speakers do their thing for a few months before changing the eq settings, that will help ease my mind if I hear any nasality and edgy treble on the first months of my listening experience. Again, thank you for your knowledge and time.Current HT Rig

Thanks all for the welcome, I'll report back once they arrive and if I can get the camera working I'll post a pic or two. As for the SVS sub, I went with a friend of mine to demo a few subs at a local persons house in Phoenix about 6 or 7 years ago and I was blown away, I shipped out to Japan shorty after and they sent the sub all the way to Japan! My first experience with it was the mailbox falling off the outside of the house lol. I've never looked back since.Current HT Rig

OK, the speakers came in and I am very impressed overall, a new problem has come up so I wanted to ask some opinions. Tax money just came in so while at a store today they had a Panasonic Viera TC-P65VT25, on sale to get ready for the new models so I snatched it up. Now I need to mount the CSi A6, I bought a tilting wall mount for the display so I could mount it on top of it on the wall(previously had a rear projection so no problem). I cant seem to find any mounts premade that will work being a tad over 14 inches deep, is my best bet just to build it myself or has someone found something that will work? And I can't stress how happy I am with the new speakers, if they break in and sound even better I will be ecstatic.Current HT Rig

I'm back from my 1 week trip to Texas(the BBQ was good enough to mention) I have the speakers and display over 150 hours and I am very pleased with the RTi A's. The added mid's that I hear and pronounced high's are making my home theater definitely come to life(feels more like I am in the middle of the action). The 3D display has me looking at a new AVR or Pre/Pro Amp setup to be able to use the 3D. My budget is 2K or maybe a bit more depending on how much of a difference I will hear. I am looking at a Denon 4311ci but I am not opposed to going Pre/Pro, and amp which quite a few people that I know who have made the switch are telling me that is the way to go especially for future proofing when things change such as HDMI 1.whatever comes down the road, you just get a new Pre/Pro instead of a new AVR as the amp doesn't effect that and you get the latest codecs and such. I want to have a few suggestions from Polkies before I make my decision. I know the Denon will work well for what I want but I don't know how much benefit I would get by getting say a 200wpc ampx5ch & Pre/Pro vs the Denon AVR. My qualifications are must have HDMI 1.4 and to not make the speakers sound any brighter than where I am now, a bit warmer is acceptable. I want my HT to sound the best it can for what I have. As always thanks in advance for any suggestions.Current HT Rig

Pre/Pros loaded with the modern codecs and 3D support are more expensive than the similarly loaded AVR brethren (economies of scale). The only one I know that's selling at slightly less is the Marantz 7005 which probably streets for $1200. So having the built in amps of an AVR doesn't cost you anything though a pre/pro will have a lower noise floor. I think you can turn off the amps on the Denon. You can certainly buy a lesser AVR w/pre outs that has 3D support and a 5 channel amp like the XPA5 and it would do the trick. Maybe one of the new Marantz's from AC4L. There are Onks as well, but Onk + Emo would be too bright for me (and I have an Onk).

Sounds like you have a pretty good knowledge base already Ninja, and that is a good thing, lol. I am with Ron on this one, for the most part. For the budget you are allowing, you can get a very capable, and some what future proof AVR from any number of companies, Yammy's, Onk's, HK's, Dennon, etc. are all very good performers in my book. As you have also stated, one with pre-outs would be crucial if there is even an idea of adding an external amp, which it sounds like there is. You have many routes you can go, as Ron also stated, guess it is what you feel most comfortable with, and and which is less of a gamble, as you stated when/if HDMI V. 1.whatever comes out. I haven't bought into the 3D technology and still run V. 1.3 on my rig, and I am happy with it, I'm sure I will eventually upgrade, maybe I won't have a choice, but only time will tell. Budget will play a key role in your decision as well, which it usually always does, lol. Hopefully you will get a few more suggestions and be able to figure out which idea suits you best, good luck and welcome to Club Polk.

EndersShadow, I should have mentioned I bought an av mount for the center and mounted it above the display in my previous post, as soon as I figure out how to take a picture small enough to post I'll show you what I ended up with. Ron, thank you for your answer. I guess what I really want to know is would there really be any noticeable difference in sound quality by pushing 200wpc vs the Denons 140wpc with the RTi A's, I'm curious how they would respond to more power, I noticed once I get above 75 decibels the speakers really come alive. I'm thinking of getting the 4311ci and just adding an amp later if I feel I want more, I do listen to movies very loud to make myself feel immersed in the action. I dont feel like doing the SPL calculations but you can lol... I would say the louder you listen the more likely you will notice a difference.
Most of the Denon's power ratings (140x140) are with two channels driven. So the more channels you drive, the lower that number goes normally.
An amps ratings are with ALL channels driven. So I am not sure of what your Denon's actual rating is with all channels driven, but any amp will be a true Wattage x # of channels. So your 200x5 amp would be a true 1000 watts availible, whereas your Denon might be lots less.
Low level listening will sound a bit better, but the more load you put on the AVR the more you will potentially notice a difference in buying a dedicated amp.
This isnt to say the Denon isnt a great starting point.
Maybe see if a local polkie might happen to have a 5 channel amp they would bring over to let you test out what if any differences there are w/ your setup..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." The closer a speaker is to the wall, the bass can become louder and sometimes muddy sounding.
That's what I think he TonyB is getting at.
Move them back and forth and see where it is that you like the sound. You can also toe them in a little and see if that sound better also.Fronts: Polk RTi A9
