We get it next year, and I am excited.
Sony Pictures is planning to continue its "Resident Evil" franchise with a fifth entry in the series currently being targeted for a September 14th 2012 release.

Despite all the films receiving a critical drubbing, the franchise has only modest expenses (budgets of $35-60 million) and it has done increasing business with each entry.

Last year's "Resident Evil Afterlife" however, the first film in the franchise to be shot in 3D, surprised everyone. Domestically little changed with a $60 million gross up only slightly from the third film's $50 million haul.

Overseas however, the franchise suddenly jumped in significance with a $236 million gross - up dramatically from the previous franchise high of $97 million for the third film.

The new date means only two years will pass between entries, a shorter wait than the three year gap between the previous films.

    The 4th was awful. Hopefully the upcoming one will be a lot better.

    Well, this is kinda a bummer.
    Rather than churning out yet another sequel, Screen Gems is reportedly looking to make the upcoming fifth chapter of their "Resident Evil" franchise a prequel to the original first film from 2002 reports Bloody Disgusting.

    Entitled "Resident Evil: Begins", Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice although this will be the regular human incarnation before she became infected with the T-virus.

    Jovovich's role however is said to only be supporting with the main lead going to Sienna Guillory reprising her role as Jill Valentine which she played in the second and briefly in the fourth film.

    'Begins' will follow Valentine as she deals with the initial viral outbreak in Raccoon City caused by the Umbrella Corporation. The 3D feature is currently targeting a September 14th 2012 release.

    I am kind of surprised, since they ended the last one with a perfect beginning to another movie.
    My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

    I've never actually seen any of these movies or played the games, I will have to add that to my Netflix queue so i can at least get a feel for it.

    The original games where fantastic then they got kinda stupid. The movies are entertaining. I enjoy the series and looking forward to the next movie.
