Just received a new psw505. It is stinking up my room horribly. It smells like formaldehyde or some other chemical.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix it or should I return it for another brand?

I know sometimes new gear will have a smell to them due to packing, but i never heard it smelling like formaldehyde.

might die down in a couple days.

It's only the adhesives fully drying. Perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about.

It's probably not formaldehyde so no formaldehyde worries.

Besides, there are so many other things in your home that contain formaldehyde, a small sub should be the least of your concerns.

I am sure the smell will die down. Like said above it is probably the adhesives / finishes fully drying.

My rc car tires are probably the the worst smelling "new" products that I buy.

I never buy a speaker without smelling it first.

Oh? Maybe you were the one I saw "making out" with a speaker the other day in the store. I was wondering what was going on...

Mine only had a smell of wood or the like and only when the bass port was flowing massive amounts of air.
I think it went away in about a week.

I don't know what material your speaker is made from but formaldehyde is used in the manufacture of particle board. Gassing can continue for several years.

Foemaldehyde was/is used in the aging during the manufacture of Thai beer. Started brewing on Firday and in the BX no later than Wednesday. Gassing only lasted a few days but could empty a hooch in a few minutes.

that is why they cover the product in paint. also, when that gassing ocurs (they say all mdf does to a degree) I have never noted a strong formaldehyde small......even when I cut it.

call customer service if it doesnt go away in a couple days

I recently got a sub from a different manufacturer (BIC), and it also has a bit of a "whiff" to it...
