I'll see him this week, I'm recapping a old 50's table radio tonight so he can get his tunes on while he's there. Sorry, but I couldn't post about it until now, it busts me up just thinking about it - I can't loose any more audio buddies, I just can't. I'm running out. The **** that I have learned from that man, you can't even imagine. He's a savant with tubes, plain and simple. He can build ANYTHING, and do it with his eyes closed.
I'll pass the good wishes along from the Polk crew, no worries.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -

Guys,, please read page 7 and 8 of this link--while I have never met Gary,he has always treated me fairly and respectfully. Now it appears that he is in need of surgery.Being a small "independent" businessman, and currently sidelined,he may need some support from his friends and customer base.I'm sure that anything you do/contribute is greatly appreciated.
Just wanted to get that out there.

Damn, Gary. You are going through living hell from what it sounds like. Prayers sent and when the PP or money train starts, I'll do what I can to help.
I was talking to him late last year and he had commented that he could most likely weather the storm [recession]. I know he wasn't planning on this.
Thanks for the update George.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

Gary's personally repaired a few pieces of gear for me, sold me even more and done a couple custom jobs to boot. As far as his local Texas presence to the community and his friends and/or extended family from Lone Star and Rocky Mtn. show events??? Unbelievable and his swagger was that of a humble, Yoda's brother like dude with a wry smile on his face from what I've read in his more personal forum activity far from mainstream idiots.
I'm just glad to have been small part of a couple things and to have met him thru my bestfriend Russman. The fact he was a much larger personallity and still kept square shoulders and audio snobbery at arms length drew me in from the get go....and for that, cheers and get well damnit. - MarkCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Guys, I guess I'm going to roll with it, and do it on here and AC. Let's pass the plate for Gary, and get the rent covered if possible. I've got a Sony preamp that I haven't yet sold, I'm going to price it to move and try to help out with a couple hundred. Five, Ten bucks, whatever you want to do, whatever you can do.
Use audioads@tx.rr.com for paypal gifts, I'll pull the cash out and take it straight to him. I'll also be happy to print a ledger / screenshot from the paypal account for anyone that has donated. Let's see what we can do by COB Thursday, and I'll pull the cash and take it to him on Friday. I'm going to post this on AC also, I don't think anyone else is handling this so far, so I might as well.
I'll dig around here today and see what else I can do on quick sale to raise some cash. Any questions or concerns at all, just email me rgates@polkaudio.com or polkaudioruss@gmail.com (will hit my phone just about instantly).
If someone else is already doing this, please let me know. Skip the Starbucks and Double Cheeseburgers for the rest of the week, and let's try and make a difference.

I've met Gary once. While checking out the Lonestar Audiofest Russman introduced me to the man who built the preamp being used in the Polk room. I fell in love with that preamp the second I laid eyes and ears on it. So I want to help! I have a Cambridge Audio Integrated Amp in the FM and I will donate $100 of the sale to Gary through Russ' Paypal account. Yes, I'm selfish. I want to make sure Gary stays around to build one of those battery powered preamps for me!
Here's a link to the sale: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116426, and remember $100 goes to Gary's fund.
