sda-2 occasional distortion

Can someone tell me what's causing my sda-2 speakers to cut-out and/or distort and then play fine if I turn off the amp then turn it right back on? This problem only happens intermittently and sometimes it might not happen for a day or so. I don't play music loud and I've switched amps to see if it was the amp. Apparently it isn't because the problem happened with both amps. I have a Carver cm-1090 and a Marantz 2238b. The speakers sound great unless the problem is occurring. Any ideas???

Well, both amps are rated for 4 Ohm, so not really sure. Maybe a bad capacitor in the crossover, maybe 2 bad amps. Don't really know. Does this happen with any other speakers?

Is it your tweeters that are shutting down, or the whole speaker?

It seems to affect not just the tweeters, but it's hard to tell because it happens so quickly and infrequently. I can't really say that I noticed it in the monitor 10s, but I've hooked the sda-2s back up and will try to catch what happens if it does it again. I played the sdas for three hours straight but nothing happened.

Does the sound go kinda flat/muted when this happens?

I would say that kind of describes it along with, at times, alternating from one speaker to the other.

Sounds like your poly switches are bad. You don't have fuses do you?

Nope, no fuses. Is this a big problem or can it be fixed relatively easy?

If you can solder it is a very easy fix.

What is the procedure for getting to the poly switches? Are they behind the passive radiators and, if so, do I reseal with new gaskets when re-installing. Also, are these poly switches available or should it be fused instead? Can they just be eliminated?

Remove the passive and take a picture of what you see. Depending on the model they have different boards. The Poly switch can be completely eliminated with a jumper installed in its place.
