I think I know the answer to this from you all.. most people here work in a liberal enough workplace enviroment.. but, are visable tattoos ok in the work place?

say a woman or man has one or several tatts.. and is wearing short sleeves in the office.. and everyone can see them. ok or not ok?
PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Guess it depends on what kind of work place. Motorcycle shop, yes. High rise office building, no. I don't have a problem with tats, but in moderation I guess. Like that chick from LA Ink. She looks kinda nasty with all the tats on her face, neck arms etc.

I think it would also depend on whether or not the employee has to interact face to face with customers. If not, I don't really see an issue with it.

Bingo. Obviously it's ultimately up to teh boss - it's their environment, they can run it however they please (within reason / the law).
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

They don't work in the coat and tie environment. Of course, neither do short-sleeve shirts so I guess it would never become a problem.

There is NO DOUBT; if you have visible tattoos, you limit your employment opportunities.

I don't let my employees have visible tattoos as it's not the image we want to present. We serve more conservative clients, and thus they dictate what's appropriate.

i see no issues with tattoos. its either an expression of themselves, or they are attention whores. if its something tasteful and not a naked lady with huge **** on a harley davidson logo, then by all means. however they should realize it could affect their ability to land a job where a 3 piece suit is required, or if they have conservative clientele as stated above.

I don't care at all if they are appropriate. A fellow employee had the words BULL **** tattooed on his knuckles so we made him tape them up as it would have likely offended some customers. He has since realized how poor of a choice he made and gotten them removed.

I told my kids they are out of the will if they get tats. I would think twice about hiring someone with visible tats for a professional or customer service position.

Was it the tat, or the message that you disapproved of?:biggrin:

Why does this subject matter? Is the OP considering a tat, or not hiring someone because of one?

Im certain this will offend some people perhaps a lot of people but tattos are stupid period. You dont look cool with crap on your body, I dont care if it is a tatto, rings through your nose ears eyebrows lips etc you look stupid.

You may feel like at the time that all the cool people are doing it, well your wrong. Some people may feel like their expressing themselves and their individuality or that they proving their love to some guy or girl by doing so or in rememberance of a loved one that has died.

There are any number of reasons why people choose to do so and none of them are a good reason. If you want to remember someone take pictures of them, if you want to prove your love do something nice not stupid, If you want to be different and express your individuality there are hundreds of ways one can do this without marking up their body.

Remember tattos are a pretty permanent way of telling the world im a dumbass and odds are you will regret this decision down the road.

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I say, it's all up to the employer. Honestly though, you're not presenting yourself in a professional manner (IMO) if you're showing them off in the work-place. I myself have a tattoo but it's completely hidden unless I'm shirtless.

Nope not for a receptionist who is usually the first person that patients see. Not the best first impression to make of that office.

I have (almost) full sleeves. I work in IT and do a lot of consulting work. I wear long sleeve shirts even in the dead of summer. No need to scare/offend the natives.

Tattoos are a personal choice and as long as they aren't visible or inappropriate who cares?

Tony, a tramp stamp is located on the lower back, just above the butt.
