Monitor 70 rattle

at a very high volume (like 110dB) at around 35-40hz there is a strange rattling sound coming from within the cabinet. this only happens on the left speaker. it is not the drivers making the noise or the port because there is PLENTY of xmax left for the drivers and the port is not making any "chuff" sounds. I'm not exactly sure what in the cabinet could be rattling, at first i suspected maybe the binding posts weren't screwed down all the way so i check those, that wasn't it, thought maybe a driver wasn't tightly screwed into the cabinet, that wasn't it either, thought maybe a wire was resting on the side of the cabinet inside and was making the sound and that wasn't it either. the sound doesn't appear to be coming from any of the drivers so i don't think the cones are knocking against something. I'm not really sure what could be causing the rattle, i've never heard it during normal program material (music, movies, games etc.) just when playing a test tone, i don't think it will impede my ability to use the speaker normally but still it bugs me it is doing it. Any ideas?

Sounds like you've checked just about everything. Only other thing I can suggest is to pull all the drivers and lay the speak face down and see if anything falls out. Have kids? I've heard of people with similar problems and it turned out to be a small toy that had been stuffed in a port.Turntable: Empire 208

Good point quazilla! I found some 'change' in my Center once? Pennies? That'll rattle if you push the volume!

actually, i've only had them a few days so there hasn't been time for anyone to shove anything in them and no i do not have kids or anyone in my household who would be an idiot enough to put objects into the port. i will remove the woofers sometime this week, sounds like the sound is coming from the upper middle area of the speaker, i honestly have no clue what it could be, i seriously doubt whatever the issue is that it will impact "normal" performance, had a bass heavy drum into to a song cranked to about 120dB for a few seconds and heard no rattling, also i have watched several movies and played several LFE heavy video games without hearing the rattle so i'm not overly worried about it, i also notice leaning the speaker forward eliminates the noise as long as it is leaned forward so there is definitely something in there rattling. i'll figure it out soon enough i suppose.

anyone know what size hex key the 70's take? i know the RTI's are 9/64th's but i dont know if the same hex keys are used in all of the speakers. any info on this would save me the trouble of several trips to the hardware store

I had the same issue, it ended up being a loose peice of plastic molding at the top of the speaker along the seam.Put some wood glue on it clamped it for a couple hours never heard it again.Hope this helps

Sounds like something is loose or hanging wrong. You checked wires, but if leaning the speaker forward makes it go away, then it has to be something like a wire.Turntable: Empire 208

Few days late but, they use a 3mm key.
Could be a loose brace? I think they are only glued in and if it did not take for some reason it might rattle. -
i took the crossover out to try to find the rattling thing, couldnt find it, put the xo back in, rattling stopped, mustve been a wire or something.
