should I biwire surrounds?

I have LSi15 mains, and will be picking up LSiC and LSi7 for surrounds soon (as soon as they come in) to go with my new Rotel 1065. I'll also need some speaker wire...

1) should I biwire the LSi7 surrounds? is it worth it?

2) will I be ok with Monster XP, or should I go for some better wire (surrounds only)?

Thanks!

I doubt bi-wiring your surrounds will do much for you, especially if you run them set to "small".

Try replacing the stock jumpers with wire though...

Rob, there's no advantage in bi-wiring; the two wires are electrically equivalent to a single wire about three gauges heavier(e.g. two 16 ga bi-wires are equivalent to a 13 ga single wire).

As far as the actual wire for the surrounds goes, this site has an excellent discussion. As you see, the length of the run is the primary factor. You don't have to spend for the Monster wire. Standard 16 ga lampcord should be fine.

John - Welcome to the forum :)

A few people here may disagree with that broad bi-wiring statement. The data that can be collected on why it doesn't work, is the same amout of data that says that it does.

I have not biwired anything, why would I....but I know people that have noticed a sonic difference in the application. Also, some that have not noticed anything whatsoever.

I believe that there are more variables involved in the issue, and bi-wiring benefits some, and not others. Too many to state a general comment of NO. Its in the ears anyways. I fully support better jumpers also, but aren't we in the same idea at that point?

I have tested cheap wire with modestly priced wire, and sorry, but it did make a difference in MY system. I would not use 16 gauge lamp cord for anything but a lamp. The same argument is valid for interconnects.

Do you also believe that a single strand of copper, would sound better than a single strand of silver? I think that it would certainly sound different, better is subjective. The whole site you posted is a listeners opinion. Just like you...just like me.

    John K,
Welcome to the site. You're certainly not afraid to make a splash wading into of of the more hotly contested topics in our little Club...

Nice link to Roger's web-site. While I've visited it before, I had not read his compilation on wire... a good read there.

    robodell,
For my part I directed my comment to your surround speakers. There I believe bi-wiring is unnecessary. For mains.... I leave that to you.

As for "high-wire", again I beleive there is little difference to be heard. IC's... another story.

    robodell,
I have a similar set up rsx 1065 lsi15/lsic /lsifx. My mains inc. the center is bi wired with Monster Z2. my rears are single with monster z1. The mains I went from xp to z1 noticible diffrence, than I bi wired the front with Z2 even better! I thaught about bi wireing the rears but Im not sure if it would make enough difference verses the additional cost. I always looked at this way, the longer the run the bigger & better the cable must be. I had xp in the rears & switched to Z1, there was a slight improvement & my oppion cost to improvment ratio was money well spent. I had looked into changing the rears to Z2 also but the cost would probably outweigh the gain, & the size of the cable is much thicker than the Z1 so running two 38' legnths & trying to hide them would be very hard. Im curious what bi wired rears would sound like though. We have done many custom cables for the rear using Z1 & so far customers have been happy! I would at least use XP for the rears. Remember your equipment is only as good as its weakest link!

And to think I didn't jump all over this post ......I'm not losing my touch just really preoccuppied.

Bi wiring the rears....well lets see.I have done it O about a thousand times with steller results. There made to be bi wired right??why would it make a difference if there in the front on the sides or in the rear??

All you have to do is question weather it's worth the extra cost.Is it not worth even the slightest improvement?Maybe maybe not.Your system max performance is in your hands........

Inside tip.....Mantis system will be bi wired with Kimber Kable 8tc/8tc all the way around 7 channels my friends..........you do with what you want with your systems......

    Dan you damn fool,

I visit this site to check on your mental health deterioration as you morph into "Mantis", mystical purifier of audio systems, using mystical Eastern phrases ("Learn from me or pass") and it's a **** scream mate! Dig this:

Your own tv show, as you travel the old west, banishing demons from peoples audio systems. What? No electricity in the old west? It was going to be a comedy anyway. It couldn't HELP but be a comedy. You crackpot.

    Yeah, flavor of the month.

What does 8tc run per foot, $6, $8? He's going to wire an entire 7.1 rig? Yeah, o-k.

Then again, if this is going in his 'house', we probably still have a couple years before anything actually happens. ;)

    Cheers

Puke all you want...........my system will be badass and yours......well you know what you did...

It's like this....ask a question like this one and expect ME to say something about it.It's what I Do.

Yes Kimber Troy, you haven't been around in quite awhile.I sold just about all my wire to the good people in here and made the switch to Kimber Kable.

The B&K Lsi combo in my opnion sounds better wired with Kimber then Transparent.Nothing wrong with Transparnet but I was looking for a certian sparkle and I got it with Kimber........

As far as my eff'ed up house deal......have alittle respect and leave it alone.I have been going trough enough **** with the township and my builder. We have a finished house with no use and occupancy permits....due to the new laws in the township, they are making my builder change many things.I'm completely sick of it as we where suppost to settle 3 weeks ago untill the township Instector came down hard on the builder. His fault totally,he should be up to speed.Pick on me crack jokes about anything but that,do it again and EVIL MANTIS will come back HARD.
    Leave it alone PLEASE

I haven't been posting as much but I've been lurking pretty regular but I must have missed Dan's switch to Kimber post....can someone point it out?

Oh, and our systems, what's wrong with them?

"my system will be badass and yours......well you know what you did...

Sounds like you dissing other folks gear to me. Well, maybe you are right though. I sometimes don't sleep at night knowing that I don't have a receiver that costs more than a decent used car. I'm actually seeing a shrink about this. Leave me alone or the EVIL TROY will come back with a vegance.

I remember the fire sale, I just don't remember the Kimber / Transparent shootout. There must have been one and I wasn't paying attention.

ahh just like the olds days huh.......

again take it as you wish my friend.I didn't say it the way you understand it, but negitive thinking and all.So whats wrong with owning a receiver that costs more then a good used car?I'm not the only one anymore who does.Take alook around at all the Rotel and B&K owners,it's like a colt following around here anymore.Good gear is good gear Troy and like that good used car,you have to pay a pretty penny to get a good one.I didn't make it that way,it's just the way it is.Hell If I could come down to Troy's Thrift shop, pick up a sweet B&K receiver I would. Why not things cost to damn much money today anyway so why not try to save a buck or 2.

O for your info the sale wasn't a FIRE sale buttmunch,it was a closet sale. You should know about things like that........
