So ive decided to buy a ATL-1000cu Cryo'd Pure Copper Receptacle
and have heard some say a good wall plate is a good idea too.But I sure as hell aint gonna pay 200 or even 70 bucks for some fancy aluminum framed carbon fiber plate:eek:.I mean come on, someone is making a killing on these things.

Anyone know a good source for one I can get at a reasonable cost??

What's wrong with a plastic one for 65 cents?

Agreed. Or if you really want to step up to an industrial grade on for $1.50, but I don't see why anyone would need more than that.

Here is a stainless steel plate for $6 that looks pretty cool. If the socket shorts, I wouldn't want to touch the plate, but it would give you a neat look for little coin.

That ATL looks pretty nice. Getting an audiophile receptacle is on my short list. I was thinking of getting the PS Audio power port or plus.

Why did you choose the ATL over the PS Audio models?

I got offered a deal from mojo Audio on the ATL olong with a few other items.
I think the only PS audio model that could even compete with the ATL 1000 is the premier which I may get also..someday.The ATL isnt gold plated either which is a plus in my book.Others might prefer the warmer sound the gold plating may offer.

A link for those who like to try not so well known stuff. http://mojo-audio.com/AC-Power-Products_c17.htm

Thanks for the link jake.Sort of what Im looking for.

Cant imagine why. You're fine until you ground yourself. Take a screwdriver and stick it in a live outlet. I'll bet ya money nothing happens.

Not to mention you should never be working on a live circuit. Ever.

I had no idea that receptacle covers could be an audio tweak! On your link, that one on the bottom of the page looks BEEFY.

I hope you try it and then see for yourself if it really makes a difference or not. If not sell it. If you can find a used one that would be better.

I'm sorry, but a wall plate is just that. A wall plate. No matter what you decide, there will be absolutely no damned difference between that and the wall.

That said, if you trip over the wall plate? That's a different issue. Until then? Look elsewhere to improve your rig.

Plants can make a drastic change. I mean, come on? Are you really serious? I equate wall plates to the last .0000000000000032891% of sonic change that can happen to your rig. You want to pay that much for a plate? By all means......but if you are serious.....I have a bridge I would like to show you....

This thread is nuts... If you are upgrading your wall plates - it should be to simply seal it around the cut out so no air leaks occur.

With your rig and the custom mega-whatever you are making? Maybe. To 99.987691% of the population? It would be as affective as adding sugar to your trash can.

Well...now that the opinions are in, I wont bother
Thats all I was looking for in the first place.Ive seen a-lot of opinions on this subject all over the web. Some people do pay over 200 bucks for some of these plates and it got me curious as to why someone would pay that kind of money for a plate.I mean, come on,it probably only cost a few bucks at most to make one.
But if there wasnt a market for the things..............the filthy rich wouldnt be able to buy em.

No, I never got around to investigating audiophile wall plates. The question is moot for me now since I use PS Audio Soloist SE in-wall passive power conditioners which come with 3/8" thick milled aluminum face plates.

PS Audio offers some compelling, yet mute, testimony to the benefits of audio grade wall plates. It is interesting to note that PS Audio went to some effort to provide a 3/8" thick milled aluminum faceplate for their Soloist and Soloist SE in-wall power conditioners, but I have found no mention of this feature whatsoever in their web page descriptions (see links below), in their marketing materials, or in the instructions that come with the Soloists. Certainly, it would have been easier and cheaper to provide the Soloists with a plastic faceplate. The fact that PS Audio chose a thick metal faceplate for the Soloists seems to indicate that they found some performance benefit from a thick metal faceplate over that provided by an ordinary plastic faceplate or even a thick plastic faceplate.

Maybe PS Audio does not mention the aluminum faceplate, and any benefits thereof, out of concern that it might seem "voodoo-ish" and could turn off some potential buyers.

It is also interesting to note that the Soloist and Soloist SE retail for $200 and $250 respectively, even though they come with thick metal faceplates. The interested reader may want to consult PS Audio regarding the added performance benefit, if any, provided by the Soloist's metal faceplate and how much the metal faceplate adds to the cost of a Soloist.

PS Audio should have thought of that. A blue LED matches the blue PS Audio logo. I would change the LED color on mine if they weren't hidden behind cabinets.
