I've got a friend who keeps talking about how awesome Bose's new TV is, and so I figured I'd invite him over to hear the LSi's. What movie(s) do you guys think have the best effects, etc? I know War of the Worlds is one. Got any ideas for others?

Hah, I had to google after re-reading "Bose tv" half a dozen times:

The $5,349 Bose VideoWave combines a surround system with a 46-inch LCD TV.

Ummm...WOW. So my dad just dropped $1500 on a sick 46" Sony LED. That leaves me with $3850 for a HT system..........

I'm not the brightest of bulb on the best of days, but $3800+ for a "user friendly HT setup" is flat ridiculous. I've seen some pretty insane equipment flow through the flea market here over the years. I guess it just blows my mind how anyone would see the value in that Bose setup....

To each his own obviously but still...

The one that comes to my mind is "Total Recall"; especially when the dome is ruptured and Arnold's eyes pop out of his head when he is exposed to no atmosphere on the surface of Mars.

First time I saw this back was in 1990 on a laser disc played through a friends Sansui system with 21" woofers. It shook the entire trailer and then the breaker popped and everything went black.

Well, it seemed good at the time. Probably not by today's standards. ... Carry on...

    Iron Man cave scene.

    +1 to these.

In FotR: Prologue when Isildur cuts the One Ring from Sauron and he explodes - deep almost subsonic effect.

and don't forget the scene of The Bridge of Khazad-dum when the Balrog faces Gandalf: like a blast furnace from hell belching forth hate and wrath.

Iron Man 1: Cave scene - dang - first time I thought we were having an earthquake at the same time!

The intro to the original Matrix where Trinity is chased down to the phone booth is excellent for bass, and most importantly surround. After that the stellar acting of Keanu Reeves overshadows everything.

My favourite for sound is U-571....that depth charger run is amazing....in fact sound is great throughout the movie. I'm sure his bose system can't do it justice.

There is a THX disk with many scenes from different movies it also includes all the THX intros ever made along with DTS. lots of starwars in it. The Pod race is in it and it a great test for bass and for surround.

Master & Commander, U-571 Depth Charge scene, Iron Man 2 near the end where they go to show to demo bots (tons of surround and bass), Inception, Dark Knight when Batman exits the Bmobile and the car says "goodbye". , All of these should be lossless audio if you have them on BD and sound excellent. If you have the scary flick Pulse, there is a scene toward the end that is a work out the subs, it is a very low Pulse that goes down to around 10hz and sounded sick on my dual SVS PB12/plus 2 subs.
