I'll let the veterans take this but if you want to do some research yourself...look up some of Ted's threads (reeltrouble1)!

Don't have one yet, want one though, just always scary to take that first jump. Sometimes you just need a push.

Once you jump into the rabbits hole, there's no telling how deeply you'll fall.

It's not a rabbit hole rig.....it's more so a rig in a rabbit hole. I had the same confusion with Ted when he had his woodshed rig. I guess you have to know Ted a bit to understand his vocabulary. Just terminology folks. Think about what a rabbit hole is and all that goes with it, you'll figure it out.

Im sorry but you lost me, I am just trying to get some advice/recommendations on setting up a system for playing my records, cds, tapes etc. I don't know which amp, processor, receivers to buy. I will not be using it for movies (music only). This setup has to sound very good. I know nothing about tubes, etc. I don't even know if a sub is needed for music. It must have good pier.

Whoa... this thread got weird. And no, no one answered his question directly.
Could you all be any more cryptic?

rig: kit, gear, system, etc. Its just a synonym for your setup.

rabbit hole: This is an Alice in Wonderland reference
    exerpt from Alice in Wonderland:

"[After spottotting the white rabbit, Alice] ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.

The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well.

Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her and to wonder what was going to happen next. First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything... Down, down, down. Would the fall never come to an end!"

It's an metaphore used to describe the nature of embarking on a new adventure. Here in the forum it seems often to be used with implied allusions of getting caught up in the journey as well as sometimes used synonymously with the "slippery slope" idiom. That is to say that even if treading lightly at first, you can quickly find yourself quickly sliding into the depths of the adventure (in this case with stereo gear). This is typically associated with the amount of money spent and so some here will associate that monetary element as well.

Simply put: the rabbit hole is the "audio journey," and sometimes you end up farther into it than you initially anticipate. Most of the time your wallet finds the bottom before you do ;)
design is where science and art break even.

Actually, a rabbit hole is a place you don't know where it leads and you don't know where you gonna come out at the other end.

Enjoy this hobby! And watch out for your wallet! Tubers are a common encounters in the rabbit holes, so it says.

And where is Ted anyway? I think he hasn't posted here for a while?
