Well..dont it figure, go away for a weekend and the 17yr old decides to party it up. Then when I get home, "Dad..the TV has no sound"...Uhuh.
I've has this system for 2 years now - bought it from costco as a package with a Yahama HTR 6150 receiver...no issues till this weekend.
Fast forward:
Symptons:
No light on control panel of sub.
All connections are good.
As I could not see a fuse on the panel but assumed it likely was in fact fused, opened up the back of the sub - Fuse appeared to blown. Replaced fuse with 250V-1A mini, plugged in and turned it on...got a momentary deep sound and that was it .. no light no sound.
Re-opened up back panel and fuse is blown. Took out bad fuse and replaced with a much higher fuse. (250V - 5A mini). I made sure the Sub was turned off (this time), and plugged it back in. Without the sub being on, it provides a deep hum. Pulled large fuse and replaced with correct 250V 1A mini , plugged it in and turned it on and it blew it immediately.
I also noted that the DC Transformer (86H-4102 DCG 0725A) was quite warm after only being plugged in momentarily with the large fuse...hmm.
The board looks good with no obvious overheated elements and knowing teenagers love of music just Cranked .. I am thinking maybe a Bad transformer..??
Houston we have an problem....any ideas help would be greatly appreciated.?
thank you,
Stk

Hello,
In all likelihood there is either a problem with the woofer or the bass amplifier. It would be best to check with Polk CS tomorrow at 1-800-377-7655. They'll walk you through the troubleshooting necessary.
Sorry you're having a problem.
Regards, Ken -
thanx Ken...
So in "woofer" we are talking about the actual speaker itself.? I suppose that makes sense..if it was abused.!
Thank you I will.

No problem. It could be the woofer's voice coil is shorting out the bass amplifier. Or, the woofer is fine and the amplifier has a problem. But either way Polk CS will help.
Take care, Ken
