Run the 505 unfiltered and use the top sub out on the 608. Then crank the filter all the way up on the 505 (just to be safe), and start with the volume a little over 1/2.
This way you can control the crossover point via the 608. Run Audyssey to get a good starting point then make final tweaks. Audyssey originally set everything on my system at 40 hertz, but then I changed it to 80 hertz with the sub at 90 hertz.Panasonic 58" Viera S2 Plasma | Onkyo TX-SR608 | Monitor 70 Series II | CS2 | PSW505 | RC60i -

I am not trying to bi-amp/bi-wire anything. Looking at the set-up guide for the 608 I have L/R front terminals and L/R rear surround terminals. One is a positive and the other is a negative but only two for left (+,-) and two for right (+,-). Now if I look on the back of the 60's & 40's each of these have four terminals and they are hooked together by a angled piece on metal.
My question is do I leave these hooked the way they are and connect the wire from the receiver to the top two terminals or is this set-up for something different than what i am trying to run, just a simple 5.1 system.inthewoods wrote: »You're fine... leave the metal jumper. You take that jumper out when you bi-amp the speaker.
Right, I believe that's what I mentioned in post #16I'd just run the wires from the receiver to the upper two posts and leave the bridge connected.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

My amp came today....yeah! Getting so close I can taste it. I wanted to hook the speakers to an old Sony receiver I am using now last night and the wife talked me out of it, she said quit being so impatient. Then said "we'll all be deaf soon enough".
Do you prefer filtered or unfiltered for subwoofer and why? I notice on the back the is filtered and unfiltered and I am getting mixed reviews about which is better.
Is it just a choice of the way it sounds to your ears or a good reason to run either??
Its funny how some people think that just because you can rattle the rafters with your setup, that you will 24-7. I find I like watching a show at a nice easy listening level through my humble setup, is just great."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers, just proves that everyone's taste are different. I have a 2 yr old and probably will not play it loud alot anyway, but not to say what might happen when she is in town with Mom.
I have read a few articles and it seems that if you have a little knowledge of this stuff, then go unfiltered. If you are like me set it up filtered and let it play a little while and then maybe change it up some to suit your taste.
Isn't Tuesday here already, I have a room full of speakers, wire and no receiver. I think I need a drink....

Sorry about that. It's said that bi-wiring (running two sets of wires from the same receiver posts to four different terminals of the same speaker) really does no good, I did a mock job at bi-wiring to see for myself, not much difference if any that I've noticed.
My receiver will allow me to bi-amp the speakers (i.e. wires from the L channel on the receiver to the bottom terminals of the speaker, and wires from the rear surround terminals on the receiver to the upper terminals on the speaker, so I'm going to give that a try to see if I hear any changes.wkdwarrior98 wrote: »That had to have been tough, I called UPS today to see if they could get it here tomorrow.....

You lucky dog, you....lololl. I have tried, to no avail, calling UPS to hurry my shipment. I think now they are avoiding my calls.
I told my wife we are going out of town this weekend as I don't think I can stand sitting there looking at all these speakers and no way to play them yet.
I am asking alot of dumb questions but have always paid someone to install my system, tired of doing that and want to try and learn myself. I do understand how the wrong settings and volume can blow speakers, as I fried four satellites and the sub. from a bose accoustmas 10 set back in 2001. The remainder of this set-up is what I am replacing now.
This forum rocks and is the main reason I decided to go Polk. Everyone is very helpful and if your checkbook is heavy enough will set you up with a mind-blowing system.

Well, I bi-amped the 70's with my 807 and got the new Empire set up. I demo'd Hulk bluray, oh my gosh, the sound is incredible, the new sub is jacked up in major fasion. I played the Wolfman bluray, demo'd the asylum scene, when wolfie runs along the rooftops and then stops on the rooftop statue and howls at the moon, whoa, chills, the 70's and center were shining, the 70's had the howling echoes sounding like they were in my house for real, I'm digg'n this. I won't leave the fronts bi-amped, once the 40's show up, I'll go back to a 7.2 but for now, I'll enjoy the new 5.2 set up.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

Another silly question. I have read and reread the PSW505 manual and there is nothing about the Phase switch on the back of the sub, what the hell!!!

No. Your fine. As long as you dont try to run 4 ohm speakers off the Onkyo your fine. If you run 8ohm, or 6ohm (thought I would stick with 8) you should have no problems.
Ohms only matter if the speakers have a lower ohm rating than the reciever. Not the other way around"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

I would definitely go with the crawl space idea. If you can fish the wires up through the wall that is. It will be much cleaner with higher WAF.
As for the metal jumpers, take them off and either strip your wire to run through both binding posts or get some banana plugs from monoprice (which you should do anyway) and create your own jumpers from a small run a speaker wire. It DOES make a difference; those metal jumpers are crap.
Nice setup and welcome to CP!

I finally got my receiver today and hooked everything up. I ran the Audessy hook-up placing the microphone all over the room letting it do the settings, then I saved it. I have some HDMI cables ordered but for now just doing audio out with coax, made those changes on the receiver. I can hear things if I turn it up to 45-50+, anything lower than 45 you can hear a pin drop.
What have I done or better yet not done.
I have all the speakers hooked up using banana plugs and during Audessy they played loud even though I had the receiver set on about 3, when Audessy finished is when my troubles began......help!H/T Set-up
