Mine read 6 Ohm

Turntable: Empire 208
Arm: Rega 300
Cart: Shelter 501 III
Phono Pre: Aural Thrills

Are you using an ohmmeter? Resistance and impedance aren't the same thing.

The impedance varies with frequency and ranges from 6 ohms to 21 ohms.
