Ed,
Thanks for that. I went into that menu, but was unable to change or toggle any of the settings. I have that exact model number box, but couldn't change the settings. Also, if this was the case, why would my outlaw have worked through optical and not the B&K? I have no idea what the answer to that is. I am still thinking it is an internal setting in the B&K that I have to assign optical to the FIOS box, but still can't find it. At least it's working through the RCA's for now.Shawn

Yes, I would assume the FIOS box is still outputting as it was before, but who knows? I feel for ya though. Sometimes you do need to step away and start over from scratch later. Good luck! Maybe Mark can help. Two brains and another set of eyes might be a good idea!

Well, just got off of live chat with verizon with no resolution. But they are sending me a new box just in case it is the box. Hopefully I can get this figured out soon; but at least I can listen to it with the RCA's for now.
Thanks all for your help.Shawn

Sure it's already been covered but, usually you have to assign your digital inputs while in your OSD. For instance, I wouldn't be able to hear my directv audio either if I hadn't first told my AVR that the signal was coming in via optical jack one. Sounds like you're saying that you have no way of accomplishing this with your processor? Is there no system setup, after which you can dictate the assignment of your digital inputs to your digital sources?

Exactly. But, I am not saying that it can't be done. I am simply saying that I cannot figure out how to get it done. I have set up no less than 10 AVR's and pre-amps in my home and always been able to figure this stuff out. I even read the manual cover to cover. This one has me stumped. But, like I said, until I can get it figured out at least it is working through RCA's for now.Shawn

Sounds really frustrating. In fact it's frustrating to me now. I hope you let us know how you ultimately resolved this.

Just got off of the phone with the service tech from B&K (they are outsourced now). He said that it is a common issue with these units. It is most likely the video board. The RCA's work from the CD player and from the fios box because they are analog and the Blu Ray works because it is hooked up via 5.1 Multi channel where the DVD player decodes the signal and sends it. So, it will cost $95 for the diagnostic and first hour of repair and $200 for the video board. This sucks, but at least I know I am not going crazy. He told me that the unit is set to automatically decode the signal via optical, coax, RCA or multi channel so there really is no setting to teach the unit. Oh well, looks like I will search for a refund from the seller or at least ask to pay for the repair.

Shawn, just for sake of ruling out everything else, have you tried coax? is that an option from your FIOS box?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Yes, that doesn't woork either. That's the reason why the tech thinks it was the digital board or video board I think he called it.Shawn

That sucks, Shawn. I hope you're able to work something out.

Bummer. Just a FYI, I sold my REF50S2 to a polkie for $450. I guess what I am trying to say is, I would think twice before spending anything north of $200 to fix it. Not for REF50 S1 anyway. My 2 cents..
Hope you get a to enjoy a REF50 soon. It is a solid and sounds great processor.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
OK, here's the update and I am completely stumped. Got the new cable box and the SPDIF connection is working. But, here's the issue. I have the SPDIF coax in the back of the box to Video 1 of the preamp. However, in order to get digital sound, I have to have the B&K set to TV instead of video 1. If I go to video 1, it is just dolby pro logic. This does not make sense to me.
Also, after I connected to the SPDIF, the audio of the cable box would braodcast over all source inputs of the preamp (cd, V1, V2, SAT, etc.). But I lost the ability to play my cd player (which is connected via analog RCA's) after doing this. However, if I unplug the SPDIF from the back of the preamp, the cd player plays fine.
So, I ask again to any and all, What in the holy blue F%$) is going on here? Any help is greatly appreciated. The seller did refund me $200 so I am thinkin of sending it back to get the repair.Shawn

SUCCESS!!!! Well, I gutted the system today and started over. Reset the pre-amp, took everything out of the rack, spread it out on the floor and started from scratch.
I finally got everything working. Using the SPDIF connection for television viewing (optical still doesn't work or I just don't know what I am doing), the CD player is working now even with the SPDIF (I set it to DIRECT on the menu for CD) and the DVD remains 5.1 multichannel. I set all of the other inputs to direct as well, although none of them are in use right now (besides V1, CD, DVD). Now everything works just fine.
Again, I am not sure if this is the optimal way to hook this up, but everything is finally working great and is calibrated. I can finally put this to rest knowing that although there may be some ports not functioning (or a connection error / improper setting on my part) that the system is working the way I need it to.
Thanks again everyone.Shawn
