I just have no experience with soldering. Its good to know that it is easy to do though. Maybe I will buy one and mess around with it.

Get an old board and solid wire and start playing around. As everyone says, you'll find out it is not really difficult once you try it.

I would say that a couple of folks here at CP could do it for you but all contact points within the Tyler's I've seen have had point to point wiring all of the way to the speakers. Even if we did the crossovers for you, the soldering to each woofer/tweeter would still need to be done.

Like Ricardo had mentioned above, you could always get an old board, some wires and start fiddling around. The link he provided has just about all of the information that you would need. That, and there are a couple of threads around here that explains where to get a nice soldering station, the types of solder you could use, different techniques for solder extraction and hints to assist you along the way.

The practice board can be any piece of electronic gear that isn't surface mounted. What I mean by surface mount is pictured below.

Here's an example of what the PTP crossover looks like in your Tyler's. Not exactly, but very close.

I swapped out the parts in my monitor with the Hovland cap and that cap sounds like crap. Anything is an upgrade honestly.

Would ya'll keep or replace the hovland,,IIRC the Hov/Revelator tweeter is supposed to be a good match,,I do think that when I replace the Bennic's with sonic or clarity caps that would have to be a good thing,,eh?

The Hovland is bright, sterile and sharp.

Not a great cap in the least.

So why would ty use "crap" parts in his cross over when he is using very nice everything else?

This thread is informative, so I went to the Tyler site and found out the speakers being discussed are no longer made. They do have this on the web-site in regard to the new line of speakers. I have no idea if it applies to the speakers discussed in this thread.

"The crossovers are custom designed by Danny Ritchie of GR Research. He room measures and tests every design for the smoothest frequency response. High quality parts are used throughout the crossover design. "

His current line up uses Mundorf Supremes.

The Hovland is not crap - it is actually an expensive cap usually used in electronics and guitars (now a defunct company) - they just sound like crap in speakers, IMO.

Thats why upgrading crossovers, his and everyones is so beneficial.

I plan on performing this upgrade in March,,I'll post step by step pics,,I was gonna leave the board in,,but after re-thinking,I'll remove it,,gotta be easier that way.

The new series is using all Tyler Acoustics drivers designed by Ty and Dannie Ritchie.

My towers uses the Milenium and the monitors I have use the lower line Excel tweeter.

Just got the 7u speakers. They are heavy and beautiful! One had slight damage from shipping. A port came unglued and fell inside the speaker. I reglued it and reattached the plastic cover. Sucks having anything heavy and delicate shipped.
I just hooked them up. First impressions coming later!!

Eh, so would I but with the cost of Seas? The profit margin got squeezed so tight........the rest is..........well, you'll have to ask Ty. Seas drivers aren't cheap.....as if I'm telling you anything...

While I haven't heard the new lineup yet, his sales have increased dramatically. Apparently, folks really like them.

Well I just got home from college. I will not have a chance to really sit and listen to the new speaks until tommorow morning.
I hooked them up and made sure they work and that was about it.
Based on looks compared to the dyns they are giants A good 7 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. The wood cabinets are beautiful especially compared to the dyns which were not real wood and looked fake to begin with. I will give a review of the sound compared to the dyns tommorow sometime. Just from the 2 songs I listened to, I can tell there is a difference but will need some time to break it down comparing them to the dyns. To be continued....

    First impressions:

Tyler acousitcs are beautiful speakers. Everything about them from the copper and white drivers to the furniture grade wood grain. The dyns are not at the same level in quality parts but they have their own unique sleak look that makes them look impressive in their own way.

First Impressions after listening for 1 hour swapping in and out after each song:

Gear: Krell Kav-300i-> Bens ICs-> Musical Fidelity V-dac-> Audiquest type 4 toslink-> PS3 (treaming wav files from desktop in office); MIT Avt-3 w/ bananas
Speakers are 6'6" apart and 15" from rear wall

Taylo 7u speakers give the feeling of being in the studio watching the band record the album you are listening to, especially with acoustic like while listening to Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs. The experience is very true to the music. The dyns are very different from the tylos. One major difference is the soundstage and imaging are different because of the placement of the tweeters and drives. The tylers are positioned higher due to the larger cabinet. In my room, the tylos give off a larger soundstage. The big difference between the two in the sound department is due to the different tweeters. The dyns seem to have a magical sparkle that is missing in the tylos. The tys are more analytical and straight forward sounding while the dyns are more mysterious and 3D. The bass is more pronounced in the dyns. This suprises me because by just looking at the shear size of the tylers, you would think they would produce more bass hands down. Maybe this could be due to room placement. But my room gives doesnt give me much to work with because of it being a open floor plan.
    More to come...
