man, I had issues finding a solution trying to Pio Elite AVR. it was .75" too big for nearly everything I had or could find. Even worse was trying to find something to house my CS1000p!

Is it possble, scott, to make that lower compartment directly under the TV taller?
design is where science and art break even.

according to specs on the Onkyo, it is 6.9" tall, my opening up top is EXACTLY 6.5"... i wonder if i remove those feet on the bottom of the reciever if it would fit? im trying to "modify" as little as possible on this thing..

anyone have a onkyo 608 or similar and can measure it without the feet? also, would removing the feet be a bad thing? are there fans or vents underneat where it needs the gap?

You have to leave some room for it to breathe. It probably needs at least an inch above it. The top is pretty much continuous vents.

Plus Oinkers notoriously run hot. I'd say more than an inch is needed or install a fan. Just my .02

you mentioned earlier that you were not really great w/ woodworking skills and that this piece of furniture was an anniversary gift.... that being said I would not want to hack into it and have the wife upset. Let her decide where another spot in the house would be ideal for it and ha ve her shop w/ you for another entertainment center that works for your equipment and meets w/ her design sense.

Very well said, I was actually considering the same direction.

It's such a nice piece and wood working skills not quite being where you'd hope them to be, I'd also recommend a dedicated H.T. display/cabinet/console and recommission the lovely gift you presented to your wife.

well that sounds good, but I just bought this 47" Vizio 240hz tv about a week ago. I spent weeks researching and finding the largest and best tv I can that will fit inside this thing... had I done that, I woulda gone bigger tv :)

Where did you get the Viz? Most places have a 30 day return policy. I bought my first 42" at my local Video Only, within a week, I complained of some viewing problems and they let me upgrade to a better 42", I just paid the diff.

I have a 50" now and would eventually like to upgrade to a 60", wall mount baby, wall mount.

You say it's been just under two weeks, give it a try to see if you can return or exchange for something bigger

Get a wall mount for the TV at partsexpress.com
Put the receiver on the top of the entertainment center.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

That's not a terribly bad idea however.........using the armoire for housing the electronics would be slick, especially since you can close it up. But finding a place to mount the new center speaker may pose another problem, and I wouldn't think you'd want the armoire too close to the wall mount as they would detract from one another.

Unless of course, you set the armoire off to the side a ways from where the tv would be mounted, display another "like" piece of furniture such as low stand beneath the wall mount in order to display the center speaker.

You go Bro. The CS2 is a beast, makes my 50" look like a 32 but what the hey, it's all about the sound, aesthetics are merely a bonus

hope you have a pre-nup and a good lawyer ;) Just giving you a hard time... if you can make it work go for it. Don't let my name interfer with the fact that most woodworkers have forgotten far more than I'll ever learn. I'm the same way and like to try to figure it out myself at times it works out great and others.... well not so much. Good luck!

I have 6 1/2" under our 58" and the CS2 fits nice due to the sloped back. The 608 is on the right and it puts off the heat so a tight space might not be good even thought it has an internal fan.

Sorry for the dark picture (yes, the M70's have been moved )

Those internal fans don't do a thing for dissipating the heat that comes out. I have an 807 and I got a link for these from a guy on the AVS forum....
