Been thinking about this whole Preamp/Processor/7-channel amp option. Something I plan to research for the next couple of months. Just say I wanted to replace the Sony receiver I have now with the format above. What advantages would I get over just a receiver. See some of the people in the forum are using the Outlaw amps, should I just purchase a Amp or would I be better off going with package like the one on the link below. Just want everyone's input. Thx.

Well, outlaw makes solid amps, and I don't think you can make a bad decision in that department...

The Outlaw Pre/Pro seems to have many nuances, or problems that most people can live with, or can't stand...I highly recommend browsing the 950 forum and seeing if those nuances/problems are something you can deal with, if not, I'm sure there are many other options, but they will be much more spendy than the 950's $799 price tag...So you have to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision you can live with...But most seem to think you get a great product for little $$$...

All I can do is tell you of my experiences so far, and right now, I could not be happier with my outlaw purchases...

I have the 770 and have been satisfied with it. I use my h/k 520 as a prepro and have not had any issues with this configuration.

I have always been a proponent of separates as they maximize your fleibility.

If the Outlaw pre/pro performance appeals to you, consider the package by all means. Ditto for the amp.

Also consider that you may save by purchasing a 2 ch and a 5 ch amp rather than a 7 ch. Can make sense if you do a fair amount of 2 ch listening as well as HT.

There are many ways to answer this question.The very same question I answered for myself some time ago.

Before you get all wrapped up in seperates vs receviers,think about your needs first.The demand of your speakers,size of your room and such.

Using rt series speakers,in my opnion seperates are not nessary.A high quality receiver is in order here.I suggest you look at the Denon avr3803 of an example.This receiver can power the rt series speakers to high levels in mid sized rooms.Large rooms you would have to step up to the avr4802r or the awesome avr5803.Again as examples.

Seperates require higher end speakers,again in my opnion here like the Lsi series.Now you can also use a high end receiver like the B&K avr507 or Rotel rsx1065 to power such speakers.Room size will again dictate which way to go.

Sound quality is something that will be gained from seperates,but the gap to the high end receivers are very close,not like years past.You can truthfully compare receivers to seperates like the B&K avr507, Rotels Rsx1065,Sunfires Ultimate and such....most of the time you will find receiver offer more features in there preamp sections.Most seperates are watered down if you will,only giving you the nessary inputs and features to do the basic jobs needed.This doesn't hold true for all seperate preamps, but you will find this along your travels.

The folks here on this board can definitely help you out based on your needs. If you are interested in Outlaw, I believe you should also consider Rotel.

Here is a shootout three regular dudes like all of us did (they did a good job in my opinion) between the Outlaw preamp vs. the Rotel 1066. No clear winner ... just differences and what comes down to personal preference. They all found the Outlaw to have more detail or a "brighter" sound than the Rotel..

As always, you should take the time to go and listen to as much as you can, learn the features / functions of each piece that will suit you needs and make a decision from there based on what you like.

Go seperates and don't look back. If for nothing more than giving the amps their own xformers.

If offers greater flexibility now, and in the future. Don't caught up in a bunch of bells and whistles, most of which you probably won't ever use.

Oh, and the RT's deserve sweet clean power as much as any other speaker. Browse the system showcase and see all the satisfied members using seperates and the RT(i) series.

Well, I really do appreciate everyone's opinions on this post. I've really been pleased with the sound from the RTi line with the Sony line. Within the next year or so I'll probally be upgrading from the Sony line to the Denon line but that also depends on what Sony comes out with within the next year. But, if I do decide to upgrade I'll probally lean towards the Denon AVR-4802R and the Denon DVD-2900 due to the reviews I have read. But for the time being, I do beleive I'll be truely happy once that SVS PB2-Plus gets here and I get everything properly calibrated. Once again, thanks for all your valiable inputs. And by the way, I have not ruled out seperates either.

Do you need 'new' or would you consider 'used'?

I bought 4 Adcom GFA-535's (stereo amps) off ebay, all for around 5 Franklins. Three bi-amp my RT55's and CS400 and the 3th powers the AB755 inwall surrounds.

I'm still using my Marantz receiver as the pre/pro and will upgrade that someday. But, all I can say is go separates, it's a world of difference.
