So I've been gone since yesterday at 7, home today at 10:15 or so to a conference. A few co workers and I decided to go to Ruth Chris for dinner last night. I've had such great experiences there, mostly unmatched service, but I guess you get what you pay for. Anyway, last night our service was A W F U L. It was the Virginia Beach location, and have been there before, and left happy. Anyway, it started off with a smart **** waiter, then snowballed into we'd order drinks, and ended up having to walk to the bar where they we're sitting to pick them up ourselves. More then once. They we're not very busy, more then half of the tables we're empty in our section. So after ordering, and then waiting 45 minutes for our food, we asked a different waiter, within seconds the manager was over, very apologetic, and said there had been a 'miscommunication in the kitchen'. Thats fine. So about 10 minutes later our meals arrived, everything on the house, including the seven or eight beers the three of us drank. I did not get the lobster tails I had ordered, however, I did receive TWO fresh whole lobsters, I had asked the price of the fresh ones before I ordered, $25.00/LB, average three to four pounds. WOW, they made a terrible experience great. I'm sending an email to Ruth Chris in the morning thanking them for taking care of us, and kudos to the manager. We did spend two hours there, but all ended well. Just wanted to share!

Ruth Chris' steakhouse used to be top notch, for a chain but they've dropped the ball from what I've read the last couple years. My experience with the Bethesda MD location is solid service, excellent cuts and very tasteful from top of menu to bottom. Fortunately for me, there are so many equal and better alternatives in my area that it's become a forgettable option in my personal Zagat.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Glad that the manager was smart enough to take care of you guys.. My wife and I love Ruth's Chris, I think the way they cook their steaks is the best part.. not many steakhouses(though there are many just as good and better) in town do the high temp broil that they do.

If you're ever around a Fogo de Chao (Brazilian BBQ) it's well worth the money. I went a few weeks ago with Mark down in DC and then the following weekend when I was in Baltimore City for 36 hours.

The service there is top notch and the variety of meat is ridiculous.

Dinner is about twice the price as lunch and the only difference is 2 meats, so if you're around one and want to check it out, go for lunch.....and make it a long lunch.....

For whatever reason, I never order steak in a restaurant......I'm pretty confident in my ability to grill a steak better than just about anyone.

That said, I'm pretty leary of any chain restaurant, regardless of how well heeled they are......For steak though, the Oak Steak House in Charleston is pretty highly regarded.

I ate at the Princeton NJ and Chicago locations. Both excelled at service and earned from me " the best steak/s I have ever ate". I can grill like no other but they use such a high quality cut that it's very difficult to near impossible to grill one better. The Hot plate keeps you steak hot until the last bite. Ordering mid rare at the last bite is medium. It's a beautiful thing. The Butter sauce they use is so tasty and fresh.
They have a Ruth Chris in New Hope under the owners name so I gotta go their and see if the experience is the same. I have been to Ruth Chris many times and never had a bad experience.

Ruth Chris is excellent, if you are in the San Diego area check to see if Flemings is still around downtown or Cask and Cleaver in Temecula, both are good offerings at a lower price point. The Palomino in La Jolla was good as well.

Ruth Chris' is okay, but I agree that there are better. My preferred one is The Capital Grille. If you do go, I highly suggest the kona crusted fillet. It's off-menu, but they're happy to make it. I also recommend their creamed spinach; it's the best I've had.

Good food and service...BUT...overpriced IMO. There are better steakhouses that are more reasonably priced in our area.

Hy's Steakhouse in Waikiki. Highly recommended when visiting the rock.

    Swanky joint, right there.

Not my favorite though. My favorite is the restaurant in the Hale Koa and you gotta be military service or civil service to get in there. I can't remember what it's called but it was honestly, the best steak on the island! I guess a military recreation resort in paradise would have to have a top notch steakhouse, huh?

But, for civies, Hy's is a good spot.

    So's The Chart House.

D.K. in the Marriott was a swank joint too.

Wolfgang's is an expensive place, was at one in Midtown. I think we talked about that one here before? It's a good steakhouse though. They have a joint in Hawaii too.

Oh and of course, Duke's will grill you up a killer steak with a Caesar Salad too!

Dallas has so many steak places, you can't list them all.
They range from good to over the top. And many are just
damn expensive. You go eat there just to be seen eating there.
Any more, I'll just go buy a great cut and grill it myself.

Funny how some memories get etched in your head, while others fade over time.
The first time was at Chicago, me my wife and our host who took us there. Vegas was about a year later, same crowd except this time I was the host.

While over ordering, I remember studiously avoiding the wifey 'look'. So of course there were left overs, which I doggy bagged. I had to hear 'you always over order. You order to fill your eyes, not your stomach', that night and a few times since. Had a great b/f the next morning.

That took a minute to register (maybe its the 12+ hour work days this week, and **** hotel). Needless to say, my only tip for our waiter was find a new job.

Now, off to the **** hotel bar for a few drinks. Much needed.
