Your Ultimate Track: Pink Floyd

Since we're on the subject of our favorite music... :)

Working in a planetarium star theater for years tends to endear one to the music of many of the late night laser shows...Floyd and Zep being right up there. But for me, Floyd is tops. As far as any single song goes, I think Run Like Hell is probably my fav all around, but they did so much and in such variety over the decades it's difficult for me to pin it down.

It may well be a toss up for me between R.L.H., Pigs (3 Different Ones), Comfortably Numb, Us and Them, Poles Apart, On the Turning Away, Echoes, Learning to Fly, Shine On...(all parts), Have a Cigar, The Gunners Dream, One of These Days...

I dunno, I'll pick one when I'm dead I guess. For now I'll keep on enjoying any and all! :)

You??

I don't know about a remaster. I am sure it has been remastered though. My cd I got in the 80's seemed to sound better than newer ones I have heard, but it may just be nostalgia. Ill take vinyl anyday anyway even though my system is cheap. Oh yeah One of My Turns off of The Wall. I have felt like that many times and it was awesome to see Roger do it live in November. That is a favorite also.

I don't think I can choose just one....top contenders for me:
    * Time
    * Pigs (3 diff ones)
    * Have a Cigar

As for remasters....for WYWH...I heard that the members of Floyd were done with their internal squabblings and were supposed to start the remastering.

    Sheep

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away,
only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out, there may be dogs about.
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the dangers not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
down well trodden corridors, into the valley of steel.
What a surprise! A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem. No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want He makes me down to lie.
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets.
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
trough quiet reflection and great dedication,
    master the art of karate,
    lo, we shall rise up,
and then we'll make the buggers eyes water.

Bleating and babbling I fell on his neck with a sream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
march cheerfully out of obscurity unto the dream.

Have you heard the news? The dogs are dead!
You better stay home and do as you're told,
get out of the road if you want to grow old

    many many favorite PF songs.

I think the top two would be a toss-up ("tied for ultimate", as it were):

    Wish You Were Here
    Fearless

I played Fearless on lab hifi, loud, in the morning before I presented and defended my doctoral dissertation back in 1986. Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, indeed. :-)

You say the hill's too steep to climb
    Climb it.
You say you'd like to see me try
    Climbing.

You pick the place and I'll choose the time
    And I'll climb
That hill in my own way.
Just wait a while for the right day.
And as I rise above the tree lines and the clouds
I look down, hearing the sound of the things you've said today.

Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
    Smiling.
    Merciless the magistrate turns 'round
    Frowning.

And who's the fool who wears the crown?
    And go down,
    in your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow
You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

Damn Mhardy, you already hit the nail on the head

Fearless is simply phenomenal; makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

"Set the Controls" and "Have a Cigar" are right behind Fearless on my list.

Any favs for sheer sonic fidelity?! :) A can of worms perhaps...but it's a risk I'm willing to take. hehehe

I've used Us and Them, and Comfortably Numb & R.L.H. (PULSE versions) to review speakers for years now. The new mix on the PULSE DVD and David Gilmour's Live at RAH Bluray are awesome IMHO.

Besides all, or most, of the above, I've always been a huge fan of The Final Cut, and yet, I can't seem to easily choose a single track from it. So, I think I'll just go with the title track.

You can count the Wall, still major Roger Waters involvement. That being said, The Final Cut is my absolute favorite, front to back Floyd album.

Mark, excellent call, right at my top again. We dug that one at CES 05 all throughout Alexis Park iirc.

You know what, I changed my mind. Fearless it is, hands down. Free Four is good, and very different in it's own right, but Fearless is just about untouchable, and completely defines what Floyd is, or was at least.
