Ok I have decided to focus on 2ch for music. I want LOUD but replaceing all my speakers is not a option now unless I go lower grade I'm happy with the TH suround now. I do need a new sub either way.
Here is the question You have $600 and need main r/l and a sub you listen to hard rock what would YOU buy and from where? I can wait on a center.
I have a Yamaha Rx v665 7.2 and a pair of polk monitor 60s on the way. Planning on buying a psw125 sub this week . I will have around $500 spent on the Sub,L/R and $100 left over for a center. I doubt I will buy anything for a year or longer but a 2ch amp is in my future. and have no brand preference on speakers
I'm sure I can sell the monitor 60s on their way and havnt ordered the sub yet.

My vote would be for using the preouts on your AVR, get a good deal for a used amp, keep the monitor 60s for L/R, and buy a Polk PSW505.
Give the monitor 60's a chance and go from there.

Save your money, buy a PSW505 instead for about $200.
You won't be happy with the PSW125 when you see what else is around for just a little more.
Or buy the PSW505 now, and then buy a center later.... At least you won't have to toss out any equipment.Main Surround -

Seriously, if you want the most bang for your buck, and you like loud with lots of bass, there are lots of ways to go. I would recommend that you buy used, as you'll get much more for your money.
Here's one way to go:
Polk Monitor 10s ~$100-$150
Decent used SS preamp like this Rotel http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatran&1301122662&/Rotel-rtc-940ax <$120
Nice amp - this is a stupid good deal - http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1301203108&/Rotel-RB-990bx-200-wpc/8-power $340
Sell the AVR, return the speakers, won't need a sub. You can thank me later. -
Here are a few Monitor 10s listed for $200 or less. Most could probably be had for less than they're asking. I don't know where you are geographically, so I'm listing several active ads.

+1, that looks like a very nice package deal and the Monitor 10s will dig down deeper than what you ordered (without the sub) and put out the SPLs!! Plus you get a free Tuner there?

Polk PSW 505 is a better Sub than the PSW 125.....and possibly a cheaper price also. Goes lower, has more power, removable grill, ported design, real wood veneer compared to vinyl for the 125 and a much more powerfull Bash Amp that is equally good for Movies and Music. Not really in the same category.Home Theatre.............

I want to buy the psw505 miss typed. I only paid 109 each for the 60's new shipping them back would be near 1/2 that. I'm sure I can sell them localy to a friend or such before I open them. The AVR I kinda like it (Eric hides head in shame)I would move it to our living room I have all the speakers to run a 7.1
OK the AVR has to stay for now. I'm ordering a psw 505 tonight . If I wait for a center keep the monitor 60s this leaves me $140-150 to find a used pair or used main speakers. But seriously used near vintage ? I know I allways buy the low-maybe mid end of good brands used but i've been through so many used speakers.
The only pair I've owned and have respect for are my jbl j900mv I like the mid bass but almost no low end. I'm kinda thinking my monitor 60s will sound like the jbls a bit. Ok you guys are on to something here maybe i wont find the sound in my budget with new stuff. Are there any other brands models you would look for or stay away from in the used?
I'm in minneapolis BTW -

I think you are jumping the gun a bit since you haven't even gotten the Monitor 60s to see how you like or dislike them.
I get the purchase of the PSW505 - good street 'cred for music and value.
And if you like LOUD rock music, I think even with the Monitor 60's you may tap out your AVR which you said you want to keep. Hence my suggestion of getting an amp to with your AVR.
Not sure how you only have $150 left of $600 if you are getting the PSW505.

You have no idea how good vintage or near vintage speakers are... I would take a pair of older Polk speakers any day to the current Monitor line. The RT line would blow them all away...I'd stick my RT55s up against your Monitor 60's and have no fear I would walk away the victor.
I mean how can you lose? Save money, get some broken in speakers, and have more to buy other things.Main Surround -

think you might be right :frown: I got the 60s today good sounding speakers for the money! but not any better than my old 1/2 blown jbls I'm sure i had more power that would not be the case. but I see am not going to find even close to the sound I want on my budget anytime soon.
2x monitor 60s $220
sub 229
= $449
I can go over $600 a bit not much
Off to midwest speaker repair 3 blocks away to see what they have for used they have dosens of pairs of tested-rebuilt vintage speakers.
Going to buy new foam for the mids on my jbl's wish me luck on that task  -

You can always reject the shipment if you are getting them from an online retailer. If you aren't going to be out any money. I would recommend the 70's over the 60's by far. -

DLK ?
for me its a locally manufactured thing. Midwest speaker had a pair dlk-3s freshly rebuilt replaced everything but the voice coils and baskets for $199
or a set of near mint 4 dlk model 2's just out of the speaker shop for $250
they had a pair of fresh done early 80s cerwin 10" 2way for $150 also saw a matching pair to these at the pawn shop for $80
Yea I'm done tossing speakers away I'm sticking with ONE quality vintage speaker yet to be decided on and roll with it. I'd end up haveing parts forever. -
Ok got a infinity pw210 from the pawn shop for $80  and a week to see if I like it or not.
it's not exactly what I wanted but she had a matching second one there she will be able to discount to $80 from $120 for me on monday. -
I personally think m60s with a good sub sound pretty darn amazing... I love my HT setup (see sig). Every time I turn it on, it's always a party...
I think you should give the m60+psw505 combo a chance to break in... Once you blend the sub into the sound of the m60s, I think you'll be pretty impressed. That's if you take the time to do it, of couse...Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:

The infinity pw210 sub I scored works good & sounds good. watched my first movie WOW! what my system lacks in music reproduction it nails for HT. I decided to build a seperate vintage 2ch set for music. thanks for all the advice.
