I'd love to see how the numbers bear this out. Sometimes I think we remember things differently than they actually happened. I can't find any good sites that conveniently list amount of snowfall by year, but I'm just curious if we really got "more snow when we were kids" or if it just seemed that way cuz, well, we were kids, and it was a long time ago.

You're right memory is a tricky thing. I'm a bit older than Jstas and from Eastern Pa. and I do remember more snow days off from school as well. But since I haven't lived in the N.J./Pa. area since 2000 I can't make any comparisons. The one year I spent in Jersey (1999-2000). I recall maybe 2 snows and a pretty mild winter?

And the snowfalls in Maine in the last couple of decades seem fewer and less substantial. But then, I remember 1990 and we didn't get anything till late January, I think, and then not MUCH! So who knows. I guess we have to check the statistics actually collected.

Maybe. But my parents hate snow so they don't take the rosy view that I do and they recall similar snow storm memories as I do. But I wasn't referencing snowfall amounts as much as the frequency of storms. We usually get between 2 and 8 inches with major storms bringing between 10 and 16 inches. 20+ inch snowfalls are rare in the area except for the "dreaded northwest suburbs" of Philly. But they are the foothills of the Pocono Mountains and they get snow when Philly gets rain.

I'm sure NOAA has historic snow fall amounts if you're interested. Just gotta dig a bit for them.
