Velodyne HGS 18 Sub Black x2

I would love to be able to purchase 2 Velo dd-18 plus's but that would be too cost prohibitive......the next best thing would be to purchase its little brother the Velo HGS-18.
If anyone is looking to upgrade to the new dd series and wants to let go of their HGS series.. I'm willing to buy.
I would prefer local (Southern Cali) just because of the sheer weight and packaging issues involved.....But would consider neighboring states if necessary. I'm up for a road trip.

2 of the best subs Velodyne ever made( in the affordable class anyway).
The HGS series subs where some of the most musical quick subs I have ever heard. I have set them up and was blown away very time on how they blend with main channel speakers. I did mostly B&W N805's with these subs and could not believe how good the pair worked together.
The DD series keeps that going but honestly in my opinion they are slighty more "forced" sounding in comparsion. It takes a bit more placement and setup with the Mic to get the DD series to sound as musical as the HGS series was.
For theater the DD subs are better then HGS with the ability to hit harder and maybe not in spec but in in room deep impact.
I would love to have either one of these subs. If I could find a HGS sub in really good shape , I would buy over a DD if music was my first choice.Dan

Thanks for the link edoggrc51.....I've actually already been in contact with the seller and we are working out a deal. I hope everything turns out right since these are hard to come by it seems.mantis wrote:

From what I understand the biggest difference between the HGS and the DD in terms of price is the room calibration equipment. This feature, in my opinion, does not justify the huge price disparity between the two.
However, when it comes to actually just moving air (which is what I want to feel anyway).....a pair of 18 HGS's should be able to do quite nicely. Heck..I might get really crazy and throw in a 3rd just to make sure I can beat any DD setup

I have a pair of HGS-12's and they move a lot of air and are quick. I can only imagine what a pair of HGS-18's will do. Maybe not as quick as the 12's for music? But for home theater, holy ****.

The HGS18 is very fast , faster then you would think and as quick as your 12's. It digs deeper , stronger , better you get the idea. The HGS18 is one hell of a sub let alone 2 or 3 in one system.
Now I want to go on a hunt.Dan

Got it!
I just picked up the Velo in the Agon ad for $1200 this Saturday and it's in very good shape. I was expecting to see some blemishes and scuff marks on the cabinet given it's age but found it to be in near perfect condition. I checked seals, switches and everything else I could think of before the demo started and found it to be kept in very good condition. This sub was truly loved..Props to the seller on that 1.
After the demo all I can say is that this thing hits like a shotgun to the chest.....This sub is a true bottom feeder. I'm happy with this purchase.
Now I can't wait till I'm off this week so I can calibrate it with my downstairs system and have it demo'd on my own equipment.
Well that leaves me just 1 sub shy of my goal. So the quest for 1 more Velo HGS 18 continues.....

Congrats on the grab Steelo. Good luck on the quest, I remember back in the day when Velo's ruled.

Shameless bump. -
Oh, by the way I'm also looking for the a Velodyne SMS-1 Subwoofer Management System if anyone has 1.
Thanks...

SMS-1 are nice units,I like that you can manually make fine adjustments and see the display on screen. I've noticed a number of them come up occasionally here and at Agon,AVS,fleabay. Shouldn't take long to snag one:)
