Yes it's an older unit with good build quality and excellent sound quality. Many have used it in nice mid fi 2 channel system with great success. I for one have Installed it many many times and always liked the way it sounded. Get it you'll like it.

"Installed many" Is this typically using the optical output or rca outputs ? Just Curious.

Installed many means little than he's touched it and set it up on the shelf for a customer. It's a solid spinner and easily modified lightly....cheap is even better. Almost all later generation Sony ES(ONLY) players have decent proprietary DACS but are the most commonly modified. The year of this player is probably confusing Mantis.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I owned its cousin, CDP-3ES. Solid performer, heavy and build like a tank. I think the 7 MSRP was in the neighborhood of $1,200 back then. Bought mine for $700 (I think), 1995.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

It means I have touched it more times then you have in your life time or ever will. It means I have experience with gear that only your dreams can bring. It means you show how much a butt hole you can be. If you had 1/16 my experience and 1/32 of my knowledge you would be a dangerous man , clown.

So what you think I just plug it in a run? ****

You're a pseudo-audio intellectual Mantis and I've never been very good at math so those wicked fractions have me at a disadvantage. 0d - 15m.

And no, I've never thought that's all you do at your job, that's TroyD.....I give you more credit. So easily toiled and troubled....bad day perhaps?

It depends how it's going to be used. Mainly RCA as most of the time I'm doing a whole house audio system. Back in my Soundex days many of my customers used the internal DAC's as most purchased Rotel , B&K and Parasound processors so Optical cables where ran. I have replaced these Sony Players with newer players back then , the 555es was a popular choice and better built but trust me the older Sony players all sounded fantastic using the internal DAC's of the player. They are clear and clean. Most last forever without ever needing service.

No worries dude....just messing with you. That player is one of the more common players found in the used market. I love 5 spinners since they are often unloved, cheap and aside from the mechanism, the digital guts are usually part for part from better counterparts. The convenience is immensely popular on installs.

As you can see when I have run into these players , customers mostly already owned them and I made it a source of a whole house system.

Does that rack roll, slide or accessed from the back Dan? Looks modular for sure.

Back in the day which is what that pic was from a Install I did around 2004 or 5. 5 disc players where a great way to have a party mode. Most customers would buy one just for this reason.
Some purchased dvd players as they think of when they get sick , can load of the 5 disc and watch movies all day long.
The Denon players back then broke all the time especially the DCM 380 and dvd 1815 series players. The Sony players where solid like a rock.

Yes and yes it's a Mid Atlantic rack on casters in a basement closet that moves out of the closet for Install.

I'm unsure of the brand but I used a slide out, slight rotation capable rack in the install for my Uncle. He really waffled and was a pita about the nominal cost but has been thanking me since. I know it sure as hell made my job easier....genius idea. I'd say good idea to you as well Dan but you already knew that stuff.

    Mid-Atlantic maybe?

Mid Atlantic makes just about any kind of custom rack you want for these kinds of jobs. I have done pull out's spinners , in wall in room on platforms pull outs from built in cabinets you name it I did it. They make great stuff.
