In Wall Speakers?

Hi,

I currently have room to construct at 7.1 theatre. I've already bought RTia3's for the front and a CSia6 for the centre.

For the sides and the rears I was going to buy either FXi's or a couple more pairs of RTia3's.

I'm now considering "in-wall" speakers for the sides as it would have a sleeker look.

Are there any recommendations for "in-wall's" that would compliment the RTia3's?

I have an Onkyo TXNR808B receiver that I will be operating at 8 ohms.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Receiver: Onkyo TX-NR808
Fronts: RTi A3
Centre: CSi A6
Sides: FXi A6
Rears: OWM 5
Subwoofer: TBD

TCi series is timbre matched to the RTi series. (or depending on your timeline, you can also check out the upcoming RT models of the vanishing series :))

Thanks Topper. Would the 'LCiRTS F/X' in wall speaker work with my current receiver? The Onkyo receiver can operate at 8 or 6 ohms for the surrounds and this speaker is operating at 4 ohms. Would this speaker compliment the RTia3's that I have in the front?

And I guess the ultimate question is....are in-wall speakers just as good as traditional speakers?

Generally no. The design of a speaker cabinet/enclosure is an important component of the sound quality of a speaker. Dry-wall has less than ideal acoustic properties. Unless you take the time to carve out and design a wall cavity that is well braced and acoustically 'dead', you're going to have a lot of resonance that will impact sound quality.

I'm dealing with this now with my car audio speakers, which use the same tweeters and drivers as my LSi9's.

i have a quick question. is there an in wall speaker that will match well with front tsi400's, and owm3's for surrounds? i want to replace my rear surrounds (older r1's), and i was going to get another set of owm's. where i have them mounted would be perfect for in-walls.

For surround speakers, especially if your front stage is RTi series, in-walls will sound just fine. Those speakers are effect speakers - you will not have too much information going through them. Make sure you put some insulation in behind them and you will be happy with the sound. I have my whole living room with in-wall speakers and am very happy with them. And I have LSi's and SDA's in other rooms, (I mention this for you to know that I do know what good sounds like).

Thanks anonymouse. I've been doing research and have been waffling between 'in-wall' speakers and traditional speakers. I have a question into Polk themselves to see if the TC265i's will be replaced by a newer model. My only concern of going 'in-wall' is losing quality sound for the 'live-concert type dvd's' which I watch on occasion..........though my main use will be for movies.

I'm still struggling with making a decision to mount either 'in-wall' speakers, FXiA6's, or another pair of RTi A3's or A1's on my sides for a 7.1 system.

I need to mount them on the wall because I have 3 kids (4 years old and under) that would play havoc on anything on the ground.

I've attached a diagram (rough sketch not to scale) of my room with my dilemmas.

Appreciate all the suggestions so far. Thanks.
