Newbie question for all of you with more knowledge than myself.

Stopped into a local high end AV store today and got me thinking. I was planning on using my elite to process video and then using the xpa to power the speakers. Does this sound like a decent set up. In these times money is tight and i am looking to get the most out of my system at a reasonable cost. The salesman was kind enough to tell me in a nice way that my current setup was junk. I know its not all focal/paradigm/marantz etc but still think its a decent setup. anyway he was raving about the new marantz gear (av7005 + mm7055) that just came out and said that if i want amazing sound then that is the way to go. Would i be crazy to spend the extra money for marantz or should i just get the emo and call it a day? Just looking for opinions on this exact setup.

thanks guys!!!!

I would say just run what you have for now if money is tight. There is nothing wrong with what you have. Save your money and when the time is right for you, then do the upgrades. This will also give you time to get ytour learn on about a few things and choose your path wisely.

    I completely agree.
As far as the salesman telling you your system is junk well thats a very unprofessional approach . I would never tell a customer in those exact words. Honestly your system is very solid and I see much balance in it. The 94 Elite receiver has plenty of power to drive all your system very well. I love that receiver it's a great one.

So save your money for a system revamp down the road.

thanks mantis. I was just hoping for a little more pop in my system with the 200w per channel since the polks are hogs. It wont be for a month or so. I will post what i think if i decide to pick up the emo. Just waiting to get my taxes done and to see the deposit in my account.

If you want more pop then set everything to small , cross over the sub at 80 hz , manually calibrate the system and pop you will have.

There are many comments about the Emo, and many of those that have them wish they would have waited for something better to pop up rather than go that route. Again, I would suggest waiting for your timing to improve and upgrade then. You can also just get a good two channel for your mains and run that way if you want.

I still think what you have is great stuff to have, and better than what some others here have.

I agree wish noosh and mantis, nothing wrong with your setup. I had a VSX-1094 before my SC07 and its a great AVR. Your speakers are good too. I think the salesperson was trying to put down your existing system as leverage to talk you into spending your hard earned cash. Enjoy your system and work on updates when you can without over extending yourself.

Sales guy was trying to hook and reel you in for a sale bro. Nice rig in your sig line. If you want to try an amp do so, the Elite will do a great job as a pre. Check out audiogon for used amps. Enjoy.

funny when a salesman tries to sell a salesman. I saw it coming froma mile away but as anyone in sales knows its never good to bash your competition let alone their product. This system is in place until we can get out of my townhouse and go to a single family. My gf is all about a home theater so the new house will have a dedicated area in the basement. Thats when the overhaul will take place and i will go with more high end gear. thanks for the comments on my gear as it is greatly appreciated.

Can i ask you what else the salesman had in the store other than Marantz? If thats all he had then i can see why he would be pushing it so much. But he still should not be bashing your rig. When i had my Polk M70's i drooled over the RTI 10's. Your gear is pretty solid dude. I have read all the reviews on that AV 7005. Its not the be all and end all in fact i wouldnt buy one.

I've used an Emotiva XPA-3 in conjunction with my Denon 2809 AVR and some other amps before in my home theater setup and it does just fine as a HT amp. Emotiva gets a bad rap around here, but they are decent amps for the price, especially for HT. They are definitely not my first choice as far as critical two channel music listening goes, but are a great way to get into multichannel HT amps for the price. I've used my XPA-3 with my RTI-10s as side sorrounds and they sound really good, especailly for HT. Sound tastes are a personal thing though, YMMV.
