Not at all. I'm the only active woman on this board with members that measures in the 1000s. This is considered a mans hobby, and I pointed out the I was one of the RARE exceptions to the rule, and my upgrades have been made over a period of years and not days/weeks/months.

There's really like 50 active members so the % isn't that bad in reality.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Fair enough. I will shut up with these final thoughts.

I played (guitar) in a band in high school and can't remember when I didn't love audio gear, but dirt bikes, cars and sports were passions at the same time.

Jumping ahead to fatherhood, we bought a piano when our eldest was 4. My 3 girls have been exposed to music constantly with sound systems/multimedia in their rooms and cars and always had ipods. All three were in concert band since 5th grade and marching band as soon as they were old enough (with no push from us I might add). All three did concert/marching through high school and the eldest went on to march at college for 3 years. The girls were introduced to soccer, basketball and skiing when young, but they never pursued sports in high school and quit skiing too.

But they all still love music.

My son (youngest) had the same upbringing, but with 3 older sisters plus my guitar playing influence (my wife is just a casual listener), but he chose scouting and 3 sports plus skiing when young, now just baseball, basketball and skiing in high school. He once said he wanted a guitar, but it collects dust. As an interesting aside, we decided not to buy him toy guns when he was small. At about the age of 3 he took a Graham cracker and bit it into an L shape, held it like a gun and walked around the house shouting, "bang, bang." The next day my wife bought him a toy gun.

But then all of the sudden he wanted more stereo gear and started connecting whatever I wasn't using at the time. And honestly, I never really shared that gear which is tucked away in my downstairs office/mancave far from the main living areas of our home.

When it was offered, the girls never wanted to pursue audio gear and were happy with systems put in place 10 years ago.

When it wasn't offered, my son started taking my stuff and becoming a gear ho!

Cathy, I believe all of us love music, but guys are mostly unwilling or perhaps flat out unable to resist the urge to "upgrade".

Outstanding post Inspired, and well done with your kids!

I agree 100% with your last statement as well!

Does your son have a job yet, or are you going to get a second one to support his addiction? Or maybe hopefully, you have a deep enough old audio stash to keep him happy! ROTFLOL.:biggrin::tongue::wink:

The only thing my wife notices is my power cable and my NADs...and she is very complementary of those.
