Underpowered speakers?

I recently found a replacement tweeter for my CS400i center and it's an original SL6506 so I'm very stoked.
That said, the old tweeter was a mess. It burned clean through the bottom lip of the dome. I'm fairly certain I did not do this as these were bought used, but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
This is my setup:
RT2000i x 2
CS400i x 1
F/X500i x 2
Onkyo SR-604 Receiver
I'm trying to look at the wattage of the receiver vs. the wattage of the speakers, but quickly realizing I don't have the slightest clue what I'm looking at. Is this receiver safe for these speakers? If not, should I be avoiding a certain volume level?
Many thanks all,
Steve

never go past halfway on volume

Hmm, I'd like a little more punch than that... Should I be looking at an amplifier or a new receiver?

Both. I don't think that receiver has preouts to add an amp for one. Secondly, depends on how much you want to spend on powering your speakers. Thirdly, even if you get a new receiver,or amp,or both, going past the 0.0 mark on the volume scale is dangerous territory. You want thump, get a bigger sub.HT SYSTEM-

If it has a digital readout, or the 12 o'clock position. Usually after that your introducing distortion, not good for speakers. Now thats a general rule, some gear is different, some speakers can handle more than others, but it's a good rule to follow with lower to mid line gear.HT SYSTEM-

Good to know. Hmm, maybe this should have been a "what amp/receiver combo" should I be saving up for thread instead...

Generally speaking, running a receiver in 5 or 7 channel surround, gives less than quoted power to each channel. With your speakers, you could get by with just a better receiver, one with preouts too to add an amp later down the road. ONKYO, the 7 series on up, Pioneer, the 1120 on up, Denon, the 3 series on up, just for starters. Still, don't crank so much on the volume dial unless you enjoy repairing speakers as a hobby.HT SYSTEM-

Not entirely true Bro. I've gone up to 3 o'clock with my Tri-Vista without the lest little bit of strain on the speakers or the amp. Then again, its not a receiver. -
True Joe, but thats a general statement for most running AVR's with floorstanders, and ment to keep them out of the danger zone.HT SYSTEM-
