Look into the Panasonic's, RP82, or the XP30 & XP50's before they get discontinued. You can still get a heck of deal for these units because they are still out there. These are are really good DVD Players that have the Genesis FLI2200 chip. The Denon 1600 is also great player to have if you want to spend the money.
Here's a link for a progressive scan shootout that compares the DVD Players:

Brent, how much you spend on a DVD player also depends greatly on what kind of tv you have. this Denon mess that these guys are throwing at you means nothing if you dont have an HDTV or HDTV-ready tv.
(Not that I disagree, I'm picking up a Denon DVD-1600 this weekend for my friends 72" Mits HDTV) -
by looking at brentman1001 current setup, i'm t hinking he's not looking for a dvd player in the hood of $1000. tho i could be wrong here.
yeah brent, give us some idea where you want to be in terms of price and how you plan to use the DVD player.
my advice... as I tell everyone.. stay away from the $48 players you see at Wal Mart. you won't be happy with it. Spend instead on a brand name and you'll be much happier.
good luck.
sorry I can't recommend any players... i'm so out of the loop when it comes to players. I'm from the old school.. whereby the more outputs it has... the better it's going to serve you.
FYI. I have a few years old Toshiba SD4700 with DVD audio.. it's since been replaced by a newer model now. I'm sure it's a mid to low end player. BUt i dont' have the cash flow to spend upwards of $1000 on just a dvd player.
You also have to figure in the price of a digital audio cable, and video cable(s) too.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I have no Idea you didn't list a video display.Dan

Look for the Panasonic RP-91 model, you can probably still find one on the web for around $400...this dvd player has it all and is superb in all areas. I have had one and it was amazing...no color bleeding on the reds, sharp image quality, percise color matching, sound was great as well. It also has progressive scan built in as well as DVD Audio capable. Check it out at Panasonics website for specs. Hope this helps...

I highly recommend the Denon 2900. Worth every bit of the $1000 I spent!
