Okay,,today I'm off to get some sewing thread and lithium grease,,and will be practicint the bloodknot.Last night I did use the "talcum powder in a bag",,checked the speed,,and left the bag in the kitchen,,and I then hear this George,, as my wife had found the bag and wondered what it was,,I guess you had to be there to appreciate it,lol.

That is funny as all get out.

You should have smeared some on your nose and upper lip and responded, yes dear, you called. Hehehe!

    Troy,
Thanks…please remember to tip your waitress….

    jm1,
For the record, I would not recommend a low viscosity lube for any spindle bearing orientation. It’s a duty issue, not a gravity issue.

    My two personal favorites:
    - Shell 20W Non-detergent, the original AR XA lube of choice; and
    - the Aurora “Special Racing Oil” of my HO slot-car-racing youth.
Of these the latter would be my choice for an inverted bearing; it’s like red honey. However, VPI’s recommended lithium grease would be an even better choice, IMO.

    gd,
Clean the well with a lint-free swab like one of these. Most of the old lube should come out easily, but if there is any residue, it might need a little WD-40 or other penetrating oil to remove it. I’d suggest wetting (not soaking) a swab rather than spraying into the well.

Be sure to remove all the penetrating oil with a clean swab before adding the fresh lube. Following a wipe with a clean swab, applying and then removing the lube you plan to use is a good way to get all the penetrating oil gone.
    More later,
    Tour...

Okay,, here we go,,removed,cleaned,re-lubricated the shaft/bearing/well with a medical grade lubricant that we use in the Pulmonary Function Lab,made in England FWIW,,checked/adjusted speed as best that I could(in the market for a speed controller).Re-leveled and isolated the maple slab that the tt is sitting upon. Now,,with that said,,things appear much quieter now and with the advice that I have been given and heeded(thank ya'll) the vinyl rig has moved up another notch.whats the buzzword,,,eh,, quieter/blacker backgound, yea, thats it.BTW,I put a "dab" of white lithium grease on the tip/top of the bearing,I got tired of watching the platter spin,so I went out and bought some thread,,now to practice my "bloodknot".A sincere "thank you" to all those that responded and entertained the invisable masses.

Half expected you to report that the noise was gone, but the TT was now wheezing...

Glad all is not only well, but better than ever...

Now go listen to at least 30 albums before you start another thread... troublemaker...
