There probably needs to be an "audio" related joke thread!
Something like, "you may not be biased but the tubes are !" ? -

Not to be a total d*ck, but you searched the archives and didn't find an answer. This in one of the top 5 topics of all time. It's been discussed to death, to death.
George made some good suggestions, maybe when you have a more specific question about a particular model you'll get more assistance. Sorry to be blunt but this is a subject asked multiple times weekly.
Good luck and Merry Christmas.

How about a sticky thread on the subject?
A thread specifically for discussing amplification for SDA's. It seem that that may solve the frustration and benefit the conversation to keep it consolidated. your thoughts?design is where science and art break even. -

What an excellent idea. I too am amp shopping (although I may need a bit more coin before I pull the trigger). I have read MANY threads on the subject of amps, and honestly I'm maybe more confused than before all the info. I understand that there are MANY tastes, different source material, different room sizes and EQ's, different models, mods, etc. DK has stated that some of the SDA line can handle upwards and over 1000W of amplification. Here is a great link from one of his posts on amplification.

I am working on a pair of moded SRS, and like most people I'd like to get the biggest bang for the buck when I upgrade from my do-it-all AVR to a 2 channel listening system. But, I have some leeway depending upon the end result. For example, if my initial budget is $600- $700, amps A, B and C would work. BUT, if I went to the next level of amps at $1000 increased my aural titillation by 50%, I'd save and get these (and no, that is not a sexual term:rolleyes:. If the next level were $1500 but the improvement was only 5%, I'd stay with the $1000 amps. But then were still left with the question, which ones are worthy to choose from. I know that as we get further up the cost scale, getting a 'bad' amp will become less of a worry. But at the budget conscience end, the $600 point or possibly the $1000 point, I think picking a good amp is a bit of a daunting task.SDA SRS modded: Xovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDOd, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods... -

Your tube amps might be the best, Larry. They definitely look sweet! I'd love to get my ears on those for a little while...
While I admit to having very little experience with tube amps in the home audio world, I have definitely done my fair share of listening to tube amps for guitars. I love my Trace Elliot Speed Twin. It's "the best"!
