My daughter is due to upgrade her computer monitor. It should make a nice Christmas gift for her. Soooo....I'm looking for an accurate monitor, something in the 21-24" range, that will display colors correctly (she's into photography and Photo-Shop etc etcc..).
Of course I'd need to keep the price reasonable since I've been blowing all kinds of coin lately.
Suggestions please?
Joe

Are you looking something for accuracy as in want to use for photos that you will be printing aand trying to match the color of the monitor and printed image... or? If you are just doing photoshop stuff for kicks, get something with a matte screen and buy a color calibration unit... like something from eye-one or datacolor
to be honest, if she's not doing anything real serious, you can do pretty good with most any monitor. I knew graphic designers that used stock macs for their professional work (apple does have pretty good displays though... so does dell, samsung...nec...) I would go with a matte screen though. If shes doing work that is going to be seen on many computers, keep in mind that being color accurate isn't gonna be terribly important as every display is different. -
LG in 22 or 24 inch are nice screens.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Try one of these ViewSonic VP2365wb at only $298.99. It's there professional series and have great color reproduction. I'm using one VP192b and Two VP2250wb's and just love them.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

There you go. Good price on it too. My mom just got my brother the VP2250wb and it's gorgeous. I'm actually jealous!
I wouldn't screw around with any other brand. I've been using ViewSonic monitors for decades and have yet to be disappointed. I won't get anything else if I can help it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Same here I've had others and they just don't measure up to the ViewSonic VP series.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -
Never had experience with that monitor, but 16:9 is a bit wide for photoshop work, in my opinion... I'd go for 16:10

Not really, as a PhotoShop user I find the the more screen real estate you have the better.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -

Exactly... which is why I said 16:10. 16:9 at 1920x1080 is equivalent to 16:10 at 1920x1200..you simply get more height. but I would go for something with higher res than that anyhow... especially on that size screen... maybe 2560x1600 -

You might want to get one that can rotate 90degrees, that seems to be an important thing to the photog freaks I associate with.

Ok Guys, thanks for the responses. It looks like the VP2365 from Viewsonic is a great value and has excellent reviews..that's the one, I think she'll like it.

Dell Ultra Sharp
Garbage. Utter and complete garbage. If it comes with your computer, it's serviceable and might as well use it. But to buy one separately is insanity. They are made by a junk Taiwanese manufacturer for Dell. The last two companies I have worked for have used Dell as their equipment supplier. Had to deal with those glorified paper weights more often than I care to remember.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I have put literally a 1000 of these in the field over the years. I have had 4 serviced (all under warranty). When Dell is putting a coupon out for them they are a good bargain.
I source Dell Optiplex for all my customers. 15 went out last week and I received another 3 systems today. They all have three year warranties. -

+ That. Sony still makes a killer display.
I don't have a huge Sony experience in regards to computer monitors in that respect but have heard good things. I'm a Sony fan among many products so it wouldn't surprise me. This is all trickle down from their experience in broadcast. They get to charge a premium for it. Panasonic is another... To bad that Pioneer doesn't do the Kuro any more:mad::frown: Those PDP displays were THE benchmark. -
I agree, the tech should have trickled down and some dynamic changed. I'd bet it was simply provider based since the actual screen builders is probably 3 at best. blah blah. I feel used when it comes to this moreso than audio. My pulse is on the audio chain much more than video.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers?
