Sub to blend with Martin Logans

As I look through all the 2k subs ML sells and how I can not afford that right now. I bring myself asking is their a cheaper alternative that will blend well with them? I usually only use the sub when I watch movies and I find them lacking right now with no presence of a sub.
I will be buying a amp for my ML's in a few weeks which will allow them to show their real potential. I am going to run them with a amp that will produce 240-300 watts at 4 ohms.
Any ideas for a sub to match with these? The one I was looking at was the ML Depth i

If you are worried about timber matching I wouldn't. You could look at Rythmik Audio. They have some really stellar sealed solutions and are servo controlled.
Their upcoming FV15HP will have a review out for it Monday in a multi-sub shoot out so you can see it comparatively. From the rumblings from Rythmik at AVS forum the sub has fared well.
HSU VTF-15H
Rythmik FV15HP
Funkywaves FW12.X SA1000
SVS PB12-Plus
Salk SongSub
RBH Sound SX-12
These are all part of the shoot out and the results will be available Monday. -
I'm not into subs today as I was years ago, but if I was you, I'd be looking for a fast, musical sub as those ML's are a tad faster than a box speaker. Subs are not voice matched, but rather speed matched. The subs I used to like for speed, musicality, and down right power, were those from Rel, the older revel B15. Of coarse today the field is wide open with Velo, HSU, SVS,EPIK, Dayton...and more, that can knock down walls if you so desire. Thing is, don't go cheap on a sub. You can get a really nice one for around 800-1000 bucks used. Audiogon has a good variety of subs. Take a peek.HT SYSTEM-

I guess the ML's he's looking at are too expensive -
my bad I must of read through too fast.
I had seen one in audio advisor mag they sent I didn't think it was that expensive (2K).
your best bet will be to buy used for what you want to spend you could get a darn nice sub -
I don't think the ML Depth or Grotto are that expensive, might be worth a look. Though if i remember correctly, they're more HT-oriented.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Some here who have this sub rave about it. Have no idea if it's fast enough to keep up with the Logans though. I would assume so since a variety of speakers are being used with it.

I had two of these and it was overkill! Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

what is your budget? -
I think the REL has been the best subwoofer I've found to blend on the higher end....the Polk DSWPro series is a very good cost alternative and includes DSP room modes. You don't need a huge subwoofer to compliment a electro or planar, just a quick fast subwoofer to handle the last lower octave(s).CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

There are a couple used JL Fathom 110 on the gon right now. I have been considering getting two of them, but my downstairs room won't permit it.

I had one of these built by DecWare and it is the fastest best sounding sub I've heard to date! Price was good as well.

If the Alien emerging scene from War of the World doesn't knock your 6 month old infant out of their high chair, you just might be an audio noob.
If cannon exchanges in Master and Commander don't cause your poodle to loose control of it's bladder, you just might be an audio noob. -
I'm running twin Velo SPL-1200R subs & they definetely get the job done for both HT & two channel. My Man Martin Logan makes their own subs as you know and they blend perfectly with all of their speakers. They are extremely fast and musical.
When they first came out with subwoofers back O about 10 years ago or so , I was completely blown away by their performance. We had the martin Logan rep come in with the Depth and Decent and I could not believe the quality of bass coming from those woofers. You really need not look at anything else , the bus stops here bro.
But...
As mentioned above , Rel makes some killer musical subs. They are not the best in the world for a theater( I like the Martin Logans better) but they are about as good as it gets for 2 channel music and blending with "ANY" 2 speakers. It's amazing how good they are.
Both of these sub companies are where it's at.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
