When you're looking at something like this, everything starts with who or what the victim is:

If I am doing over 20 miles per hour in a school zone and I run over a dog, I'm probably going to get a ticket and a slap on the wrist and maybe some kind of civil suit with the owner. If I run over and kill a child, the punishment is going to be much more severe because I killed another human.

I love dogs, but like it or not animals are simply lower on the food chain than humans. Obviously there are different 'levels' of 'animal-ness' because nobody thinks twice about squashing a bug and yet most of us don't go around smashing in pet's skulls with a sledgehammer, but at the end of the day animals are still a step down from us humans, even dogs.

Do i say that to suggest that what he did was not wrong because it was an animal? No, that would be just as idiotic as some of the other statements made here. I I bring it up only to negate the stance that what he did is comparable to child molestation - they're simply not the same.

And I agree, but is the principle not still the same?

Pedophile---shouldn't be allowed to adopt but they molest kids.

Dog Fighter---shouldn't be allowed to have a dog because they hurt/kill them.

Vick doesn't have a dog. He is legally not allowed to own a dog by court order. He may want a dog but that is obviously a moot point considering the first two conditions. He is a human being just like me and others here. He is allowed to want a dog and his right to express that want is protected by law. Why this thread was necessary other than a moronic, knee-jerk reaction to a news story that you obviously only read the headline to is really beyond me. Furthermore, your comparison of Vick to a pedophile is of a spurious nature and a fallacy through a bad analogy. As what was already said, the transgressions of a guy who funded a dog fighting circle is not analogous to the actions of a pedophile. There are no similarities in any logical sense. I must emphasize logical because it's obvious your brain is holding on to some tenuous string of similarity between the two in your mind. To a normal person, the correlation is not apparent which leads one to assume that you have intimate knowledge of pedophilia and illegal dog fighting. You state similarity beyond what is obvious to the average person yet feign ignorance of either topic when pressed for further information on this similarity which seemingly absolves you of any expert opinion that would allow you to make such spurious claims and retain credibility in your statements. It's contradictory.

I still think you should be banned. Not because you are a pedophile with a kiddie **** collection that you share with your dog fighting buddies but rather because I think you are a loathsome person to tolerate.

I just got a puppy a couple of months ago and whenever he does something I don't like (About 10 times a day), I say.. I am going to send you to live with Michael Vick if you don't stop it.

I didn't think much about what Vick did untill I saw the documentary on tv on the condition of these dogs and what they went through. I had no idea what went on in this world.:frown: To starve and pull the teeth of dogs to make them defenseless against other dogs so that they can be used as training targets. The scars these dogs showed inside and out was so sad. Vick paid is time but he deserves no privleges. He did not just allow the hurt and killing of these dogs, he allowed them to be tortured .:mad:

So than one could fund a pedophile and maybe be an "ok" person? Given they serve their time and admit sorrow?

I think the point is both dog fighting and molesting children violate social values and are looked upon with disapproval. As a human being I do feel the child is more important, I do feel a great deal of disapproval for mistreatment of an animals . Both violate acceptable behavior.

As human beings we all have faults, we may say we are ok but stuff still happens. I would no more want to place a crack rock in front of a reformed crackhead than I would put a dog in front of Michael Vick.

I do not claim affiliation with the original argument as I do not what they have posted that everyone thinks they should be banned. While an extreme example I think anyone with proper social values can see the analogy between given access to something that has been abused in the past. Given in be a dog, child or drug.

People who engage in ****-fighting (which is a popular sport in oklahoma and arkansas) should not be allowed to eat chicken....

Personally I don't think you should eat any chicken that you did not raise as a household pet with a proper name.

I tell my kids the only good chicken is Puerto Rican chicken (based on a true story of a very good friend of mine who told me that in Puerto Rico everyone raises their own chickens and they have free run of the house).

But do not let it be said that I promote eating dog-meat.
