On/Off remote code for SurroundBar 6000

My new SurroundBar 6000 is connected to my TV with the supplied optical cable and generally works well. But the SB does not turn off automatically after the TV is turned off. (Interestingly, the subwoofer status light does turn to red, but the bar power LED stays green.)
My cable box remote (Scientific Atlanta) has one of those "System On/Off" buttons, which I use to power on/off the TV and the cable box. The remote has an "Aux" control which I am not using. I would be perfectly happy to have the System Power button turn on/off the SB along with my TV and cable box. (In fact, I think I would prefer this vs. waiting for the SB to hibernate.)
Possible...?

Program the SB6000's on/off command to your TV's on/off command (try using your original TV remote to program this function) and then the system on/off command from the cable box remote should operate it (provided that the code is close enough to the original TV's remote)-Eric

Ah ha! Failure to completely digest the instructions.
I had taught the SB6000 to recognize volume up and down, but had not realized that on/off was possible too.
Thanks a lot for your help. -
I taught the SB6000 with my original tv remote (vol up/down - on/off) but the directv remote doesn't work. Volume up/down works great. On/off no joy.
