So, yesterday i was cruising the pawn shops looking for a forced air kerosene heater for the garage, and found the most ridiculous pawn shop i've seen in the area. They had an absolutely MASSIVE selection of audio gear.

Here are the standouts, and i'm wanting to know if anything is a good enough deal that i'd be kicking myself for not picking up. Assume everything mentioned is in 7/10 shape or better.

Theil CS1.2 - $350
SDA2 Studio (SL2000) tweet - $200
Rosewood LS50s - $100
B&K ST140 - $190

There's various other polks there, RT10s, some old RTis, could pairs of Monitor 5s, etc etc etc.

Also that cool Pioneer Elite rosewood 300 DVD changer, but i don't remember the price as being particularly awesome for that unit. Close to $200.

I have a feeling that the SDAs are probably the best deal, but i'm not sure that i really have the space for them. They DO have the SDA interconnect.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

What on earth are you guys going on about???

c404...you've got one hell of a pawn shop there...the best I've ever found in mine is a Phase Linear 400 amp...which, I hear, was a FIRE HAZARD in its day??

Stupid comments aside, it's not a money issue, but rather a space issue, and a total lack of desire to become a packrat. I am proud to say that besides what's listed in my signature, i have exactly two other pieces of audio gear in my possession.

But thanks for your intellectually stimulating on-topic discussion. It's much appreciated.

Fire hazards can be fun.

I didn't have a chance to really go through everything, i'm sure that's way less than half of the standouts. That's just what i saw in a quick 5 minute run through the audio section, since i was way more interested in getting a heater.

They literally had 300+ recievers/integrateds/tuners/cd players/etc etc etc. Saw lots of old silver-faced gear, including a Marantz EQ that was going for like $30. I almost picked that up just because.

I'm in the middle of putting together a setup for the garage, so i'll probably just go back there and grab some stuff, since i got outbid on the complete Oinker setup on Ebay this morning.

I was surprised at how.... small they were. From pictures, they look quite a big bigger. They weren't much bigger than the LS50s. They were wider, but that was about it.

The finish on the LS50s looks WAY better in person than in pictures. I never really got excited about their looks (which doesn't really matter) in pictures, but that's a beautiful finish that i wish Polk would bring back. In my "old age" i'm starting to move away from the "if it's not black i don't like it" stage, and i could definitely get behind some rosewood finishes. Maybe a full Pio Elite rosewood setup with some Rosewood LS90s? I did notice that the finish on the LS50s EXACTLY matched the finish on the Elite Changer, and that was pretty neat.

I have a feeling that the B&K amp is the one that i should be taking a long hard look at. That's a pretty warm sounding amp, correct? I've been itching on and off to replace my trusty Oinker for the last year or so.

    I've had many good finds.
    NAd 2400 amp $40
    Denon POA 2800 $100
    Paradigm cc-370 center speaker $80
    Hales Revelation ones speakers $250
    Halcro SSP100 ht preamp $250

These are just the ones I've bought.
There have been many others, some good deals, some downright
insanely high priced. There was a Adcom GFA-555 amp for
$200 I saw the other week.
The real kicker is that in recent years, most pawn shops have
better research going on, and the crazy deals aren't around much
anymore. Please, double check ALL return policies before buying.
A lot of things I've bought have had problems. Broken switches,
missing speaker posts, loose connections. I have fixed most of them
myself, but if you aren't handy, move with caution.
In the end, pawn shops are often better than CL.
A lot of the CL guys are downright ruthless ****
that would screw you in a minute. Pawn shops at least pretend to
    be nice!

Anybody have specs on the Thiels? Google isn't being much help. Not worried so much about power required to drive, but just wondering what freq response looks like.

Dammit, i read that review, too. I must have skipped over the specs like a moron. My mistake guys, and my thanks.

I think i'll probably pass on those, unless anyone can tell me that they dig lower than their specs would suggest.

I'd definitely pick up the LS50's. See if you can get 'em a little cheaper but that is a good price if they are in nice shape. Myself, I would like to have the SDA's too. Never heard the Theils, but I would be interested and have heard good things about them.

    A -10db of 30hz and -3db of 50 isn't bad.

At that price you should really give them a try.

Oh i didn't notice the -10db measurement, you're right, that's not bad. I'm just a nancy and like to worry about losing low end. I'm already about at my bare minimum of what i like with what i have, and i really don't want to mess around with a sub again anytime soon.

Anyone have thoughts on the B&K amp? I know people here have used it. I notice it doesn't have a 4ohm listing, so i assume that using 4ohm speakers on it is a no-no?

Now I have something to do while the wife is at work tomorrow.....:)....

Will try to take a notebook to write down what I find so we can all share the love... :)

Did they have any of it hooked up to where you could listen to the speakers/receivers or was it just what you see is what you get?
