Placement IN the room makes a big difference, not the measurements from sidewalls and the smaller stuff Eric. Corner, middle of the wall, rear of your listening space, etc....

As long as you're not blocking the slot don't sweat it being within inches of the wall. I wouldn't suggest shoving it directly against the wall because of resonance from the actual wall so 6" sounds like it's spot on so far.

Just keep playing with it.You will figure out placement and settings from your avr to give you the most impact.

You can't compare a car subwoofer to a home subwoofer at this level. It just doesn't make any sense aside from I think you're expecting more than you will get from the PSW505 in relation to your room size. If you lived in a car, you'd be set but you don't...get why it doesn't make sense? It takes much more power and woofer to pressurize a room of your size compared to a vehicle.

The goal here is to get it setup as best as possible for your application and room size. I'm late to the replies and will skim the previous posts so expect a couple repeat questions. It sounds as if you're using the LFE and have your AVR setup right, what MODEL AVR???.....you have a knob wrong on the subwoofer. Go back to 0deg phase for one thing.

I bet he is using the Polk Sat/Sub hookup method wiring the fronts through the sub. I have never liked the results using it.

Go the RCA LFE route if your receiver will handle it.

I seriously think you need to reset your AVR to factory defaults because I'd bet you fiddled with something or more in regards to your speaker setup. Aside from some named inputs I doubt you'll lose anything but the fact you named your PS3....PS3.

Dennis - I believe he said he's using the LFE output....not to say that means its setup right.

you should try turning your sub at a 30 degree angle from the corner....

I read somewhere that if your sub is facing perpendicular to the opposing wall that the bass will cancel itself out (no crap GI)....

    i'm just sayin'

The subwoofer will sound better in different areas of your room because of a number of factors. Don't worry about that right now. Just set it in the best corner of your room in regards to convenience and connections, to keep it simple and let's proceed.

No offense to Wayne but please do not do that at the moment. It's not even setup right let alone go winging 30deg ideas of which I don't believe in anyways. It's about the waveform length Wayne and a lot deeper than turning your subwoofer 30 degrees.

The picture shows he's using teh LFE on the sub at least, the rest of the dials look like are set right.

Its either a room mode he's physically sitting in, or a bad setting on the receiver.

We need pics of the rear of the receiver, a pic showing your seating position in relation to the speakers, sub as well as the layout of the room.

Every room sucks but it doesn't mean you can't get a subwoofer to sound good. I'll check out that pic ES....thanks dude.

    No videos neccesary.

Please reset your AVR per your user manual.

AVR - Connect via LFE output. Set your speakers to small, subwoofer to yes and cross at 80hz.

SUB - Connect via LFE input. Subwoofer to 0 phase, volume to 50%, xover knob all the way up.

Let me browse the docs for the AVR and sub again. I'm sure some other folks will help from here on out as well.

When you're using the AVR(80hz) to xover the subwoofer, the xover knob on the subwoofer is not needed, so turn it ALL the way up.

I'd run your MCACC or whatever its called from Pioneer and see how different it gets. You've basically set it up without software and by hand....see what happens next. Pick what's best out of the two. After that, we can tweak it and for you it seems like we'll have to boost the levels a little bit.

Eric - Well, that's up to you. I usually run my subwoofer +3db hot and louder than calibrated by my AVR or by hand. I like bass but not so much that it overwhelms the room and becomes boomy.

Do me a favor and just let it ride a a week or so and report back later with what you think improved or what you would like to be better. Seriously, relax, don't overthink it all and just rock it loud and proud for now.

Just for giggles, where did you place the mike when you calibrated with the receiver ? Also, when playing music, are you running the receiver in direct mode ? Because some will not include the subwoofer depending on the listening format you choose. Sounds like you have something not right in the setup manual. Re-read your AVR setup manual and pay close attention to the bass managment section, and the section that tells you what speakers operate in which listening modes. Another question, are you useing the PS3 as your source for playing music ? If so,how is it hooked up to the receiver and what input do you have it connected to?

My friend, if you can "hear" the sub, you are kind of missing the point. That sub with 9s should only be felt. Theres no reason a 505 should not be able to do what you want.

I agree, however I think the OP is looking for that knock you over, break a rib low end. Not gonna happen with a 505. If he's looking to re-create the bloated bass he hears in a car at home, he's in need of a bigger boat.
