So i replaced a blown tweeter in the fall and changed the receiver. Today i noticed that the same tweeter is crackly again. I guess my question is do the R50 tweeters blow easily or am i doing something wrong?

thanks

well, I had R50's never had any problem with the tweeters although I have read they were susceptible to damage from being overdriven, so Im guessing that may be what happened to yours.

Clipping and/or being overdriven. Since they are easy to drive I'm thinking simply too loud.

What Receiver or AVR are you using Marms?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

That's a much better AVR, guessing....love the DAxxxES series. Chill out on the volume knob

You might consider checking your connections to your speakers, too.
Loose connections or faulty wiring can cause some problems.

You have any pets that like to gnaw on wiring ? We had a rabbit that did, but only on the power cord to the AVR. How that rabbit didn't get cooked is anybody's guess.

We've driven our R50's using both an Onkyo and a Dennon AVR to levels that were certifiably stupid ("Fast and Furious" .... ahhhhhh !). Could have (shoot ... probably should have) caused damage, but didn't.

Doro's advice is good, though; keep an eye on the volume knob.

I just replaced the R50 tweeters with vifa d19td-05 and to my surprise sounds really good, however you will be required rout out the tweeter hole a little larger and change out the .05ohm resistor in the crossover very easy to do. I purchased the vifa tweeter and resistor from Parts Express and you can read my review on how I made the project work on their web site.
