This is MAYBE a purchase for 2-3 monhs down the road, and am trying to find out of any pitfalls with this brand. i.e., rear main seals, etc.
My 1st choice is a Titan, 2nd is Pathfinder, then lastly is Xterra. + and - feedback welcome.
Please post model, year, and mileage.
TIA:smile:

Titans are SOLID and I would get one if I had the cash for the gas.

My father has a electronic 4 wheel drive element which only used the rear wheels when the fronts lose traction. Used a few times works well.

Wow, what a coincidence that you would ask that today. I just purchased a new 2011 Nissan Titan Pro-4x on Friday. Only have about 125 miles on it this weekend but so far I love it. I can't answer any of your questions about pitfalls with this brand but my wife currently has a 2010 Maxima and we've had several Nissans in the past and never had a significant problem with any of them.

So far it's been a blast to drive. I'm looking forward to snow so I can try out the 4wd. May do a little off roading too but probably not until spring.
Are you thinking new or used?

Glad to answer any specific questions you might have. Just let me know.

Me and my Wife have a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder SE. She is the main driver and we've put about 30,000 miles on already. No problems at all so far. It's the car we took on our 3000+ mile road trip when our honeymoon got canceled 2 months ago. It's built like a tank and we've had it on some pretty wild dirt roads in the mountains (by mistake) and it handled everything like a champion.

I love my titan, and would definitely consider getting a newer model. But, mine is a 2005 Crew Cab 4X4 with the Off Road package with 59,000 miles and it has been a big headache. No offroading done at all, not much towing / hauling at all to speak of and although I don't baby my truck, I don't stomp on it either. I have had a front pinion seal replaced, rear axle seals, a new transmission and a rear axle assembly all replaced under warranty (among many other things including warped rotors that were replaced, O2 sensor, and the lsit could go on). It is my understanding that the 04 and 05's were notorious for these problems and Nissan has addressed it with the newer models so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Also, you can get hella good deals on these trucks off the lot if you're willing to suffer at a dealership doing negotiations. My warranty is up at the end of this month and with all of the stuff that has gone wrong, it is the one time in my life where I am thinking about doing an extended warranty.

All that said, the trucks are rock solid and I know a bunch of friends that have them and haven't had one problem at all. Not trying to scare you away from it, but wanted to let you know the other side of things as well. Good luck with the purchase.

Visit www.titantalk.com and you can get your read on. It is a great forum that reminds me a lot of this place. Lots of guys willing to help out and give solid advice.

I don't know about 4-wheel drives, but my dad had a Nissan Stanza for about ten years, and nothing was wrong with it in the engine until the tenth year of ownership... I believe the sound system had some problems...

The new Nissan Altima 05' that my dad has now also seems to have some problem with playing CD's...

But the engines on both of these cars are exceptional...

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra se with 86k on it. I had to replace the distributor which had a known defect. Other than regular maintenance, This truck has been solid. Highly recommended.

We had had 3 , 2001 Nissan Xterra which my wife still drives , it has 111,000 miles on it now and it has not had any repairs.
I had a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder which I put 27k on and no problems. I currently drive a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder se and same thing. I think I got 20k on it now. Looks like it's time for me to get a new truck as Tires , brakes and all that maintain stuff is around the corner.

I know this isn't on your list but my 07 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 is, without a doubt, THE best vehicle i have owned. Just broke 61K and the only real expenses were the brakes and new shoes. Other than that, it's the best 4wd being better in the snow than my old 94 Explorer, 93 & 00 Blazers and 99 Ranger....COMBINED.
Working on getting the little lady to get rid of her Tc and to get a Pathfinder.
    Excellent choice with Nissan.

Same here, not on your list, but I own an '04 Nissan Frontier 4x4(bought new), and no issues at all. In fact, after 82k+ miles, three of the four tires are original, as are the brakes. And yes, it just passed NYS inspection 4 months ago. Only complaint? The factory speakers sucked, replaced them with Polks two years ago

Also own an '08 Xterra with 16k miles, zero problems thus far.

Oh, and both vehicles run on full-synthetic oil - changed right after the break-in.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

My older brother kids ( young adults )
both have late model Xterras don't know the exact year or mileage (they are high though) but has not had any major issues.
He does maintain all of his vehicles and watches for any recalls that are announced.

I have a CRV AWD which has been excellent -
and our newer ACCORD had rear brake, AC issues and dealing with the Manufacturer
or Factory was not the same as previous years. Customer service
and support seemed recently to go out the window with Honda.

My JEEPs Wranglers ( Just Empty Every Pocket ) well that kinda describes it !

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I just wanted to make sure, from actual drivers.
I'll have to see how this new job works out, and how much OT there will be in the future.

'05-'06 Pathfinders/Xterras have issues with the trans cooler lines that run throught the radiator rupturing and mixing coolant and trans fluid. Need a new radiator and trans if that happens. Nissan's just stepped up to the plate and have extended the warranties on those items.

Titans, as Shawn stated, have had issues with the brakes in the past. Also known for blowing up front and rear diffs, seems they can't take the power the engine puts out. I've seen more front diffs then rears on the newer models, but still too many for my taste. They also develop exhaust leaks in the manifolds, which are also the cats, which can be a big ticket item. Rear axle seals too, but this seems to have gotten better the past couple of years.
