Hi, My California Audio DX2 CD player may have a transport problem. When you close the drawer it does not start playing. I tapped it a little the first time and it did start, but is has gotten worse. It also is sounding raspy in the high end on the right side. Tonight I will look into the speaker issue, SADc1's w/rebuilt crossovers. I'm told it could cost $250.00 to $500.00, plus shipping, to repair. I paid $600 about 10 years ago. I would like to get your opinion on repair vs. replace. If I need to replace, what Brand, Model, specs should I be looking at? I would like to keep at around the same price, give or take. Thanks!

IMHO - replace with a used Rotel RC-1072 ($350-$400) or if you prefer new you might try an Oppo model.

Lasareath, Maybe I'm being to hasty. I am not familiar with multi players, would it be suitable using it as just a CD player and are dedicated CD players better than multiplayers?
I'm looking to upgrade the sound quality of my system and not really looking for a DVD player. I am also curious as to how old it is. Thanks! Gary

I had a local TV repair guy replace all of the caps in my California Audio DX2 CD player and now the drawer works and it sounds great! Cost me $135.00. Also, The Virtue Audio Piano M1 sounds excellent.
