This has got a long way to go, I'll watch atleast this season. It seemed forced and contrived to me. I will give it a good chance, but I'm afraid most of us have been spoiled by the UK version. The bar has been set high and I hope eventually the US version will stand on its own and not mimic the UK version so closely.

    and then thought

What is the point of you posting if everything you post is negative and detracts from the subject? Nobody cares if you don't like red meat, football, shows about cars and everything else you have some kind of idealistic problem with. Why don't you just shut the hell up and go find something you ACTUALLY like and post about that?

BTW, ratings are in, Top Gear America garnered 1.9 million viewers and the response has been positive.

I don't think anything seemed contrived or forced. I think everyone was nervous and relying too much on the scripting. There were shining moments where things seemed very natural. Like the Lamborghini segment. It didn't help though that Buzz Aldrin seemed more like an animatron than the stiff board he usually is. I felt bad for Ferrara because he was clearly struggling to get him to say anything that wasn't a meandering, rambling train of thought.

There's alot of potential. Besides, the U.K. hosts have been doing this for 15 seasons. They've known each other for a decade now, at least. They are going to have more "chemistry" than these guys who just started and didn't know each other from spit before the show. Being overly critical just shows a lack of insight and patience. This isn't the U.K. This is the American version. It's not going to be the same no matter how you cut it. We don't have the same market, we don't have the same people, mentality, culture, laws or even cars. It will never be the same. Holding it up against the U.K. or Australian versions is unfair because while they are similar, none of them compare to each other. Yes, they need to get some of their own ideas going on but this was only the first show and honestly, it wasn't any worse than the tripe the U.K. guys put out for season 1 episode 1.

It's a pale imitation of the real thing, but it's still the best car show in the US. Look at the competition. Motorweek? Seriously?

Upon first viewing, It's exactly what I expected.......Top Gear with different hosts. No British humor, but the guys showed some sharp wit. They don't seem to be dumbing it down for the nascar crowd.:biggrin:

Not sure what some of you guys were expecting, three Americans wearing masks of Jeremy, Capt. Slow, and The Hamster? It's no different than the idea of having The Office UK/US versions.

The test track looks very challenging. Not a smooth ride by any means.

After one show, I'd say there's room for both versions on my DVR.

you knew the UK show nuthuggers would crawl out of the woodwork.

you think these guys are going to have the same chemistry on one show that the UK guys have had for years? really? Pale Imitation....eeesh

I'm encouraged as i thought it would be a trainwreck and it wasnt. yeah, seemed forced at some points and the chemistry between the hosts arent there 100 percent yet, but I am encouraged.

I will still watch the UK show on Itunes and will catch this one as well. 2 seperate shows kids.

Vettes, Porsches, Ferrari's. they will get into more reasonable cars that everyday folk can afford as well just like the UK show does.

I'm looking forward to a Mustang review by British guys that don't hate the US and all they do.

they aint gonna run out of cars.......don't fret

This would be a hilarious episode if they did. Each take on the persona of the mask they are wearing, speak in bad british accents and do some bit where they have to spend $2000 to buy a muscle car from the oil embargo era(late 70's to early 80's) and then the producers setup a number of challenges for them along the way.

This would be a nice little tribute to the original.

C'mon now Lou, you know better than that! Dude, that was commentary from the typical European attitude that Americans can't build cars, can't build cars that turn, build junk, drive boring mobiles and so on and so forth. It makes me laugh because it always leaves out such gems like Britain's Lucifer...I mean Lucas Electronics, France's laughable car industry that, for decades (Peugeot 505 anyone? LeCar?), couldn't build something that actually stayed together before it left the dealer lot and honestly, in Italy, I don't think they understand that FIAT stands for Fix It Again Tony. Yeah, sure, the Germans have them down pat (except for Volkwagens that have some kind of fetish about destroying themselves) but Germans also built the Trabant. So what's that say about them? Then you have lovely gems like Yugos, Dacias, SEAT and, well, the list goes on. Don't even get me started on Asia. But, you know, those Americans, they're a bunch of screw-ups thinkin' they can play in the world market when everyone else is so much better than them!

I think the only country that has any leeway to bag on us about cars is Australia. Mainly because they took what we made and did better in a few cases with it. They still think that a 4.0L V8 is BIG but, hey, who's perfect?

That would be in one of the next two episodes I believe. It's already filmed for this season.

Since i get BBCA in my cable package, and taking that knowledge with me while watching TGA, the choice was pretty clear to me. I'll revisit at the end of the season and see if it improved any, and if it did, i'll watch going backwards until it sucks again, and stop.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.
