The History Channel is bringing a US version of Top Gear as a series.

I watched the preview and I guess I should wait to see it before I say bad things about it, but I really don't think it will even compare to the UK version. Some of the things the hosts of the UK version come up with really crack me up. Great chemistry between them.

Something cool to watch, no doubt.

It premieres Sunday, November 21.

Here is a link.

In case you are wondering, I will be the US version of the STIG !!!!!

No way it is even going to come close to the UK version. I mean come on our air force is not going to lend us a jet to race a car or anything else crazy they do.

I have no inclination that it will even hold a candle to the original, but I'm also quite sure I'll watch it as regularly as time allows.

Agreed, that's the biggest bummer for me.

Some early reviews are pretty positive; while acknowledging that no one could ever compare to the chemistry of the original Brit cast, a few folks have called it "surprisingly good.

I am optimistic at best that it will even hold a candle to the UK version. But I do look forward to seeing what the US can do.

The WORST thing they can do is try to imitate the UK version. If they do that I will change the channel.

No way it is even going to come close to the UK version. I mean come on our air force is not going to lend us a jet to race a car or anything else crazy they do.

Ummm...they already did. Jeremy's run vs. an Apache helicopter has already been reproduced with a Viper vs a Cobra helicopter. It's going to be in one of the first episodes. they call it Snake vs. Snake.

I've also seen some sneak peeks of the "challenges" and other non-studio work and it's every bit as good and compelling as the UK version.

Way to give it a chance, guys. Yeah, it sucks that Adam isn't on the show but that may change in the future, who knows. But this is not the UK version. Or the Australia version for that matter. It's the U.S. version. If you want the U.K. version watch that one. Even Jeremy said it himself. Don't try to mimic the U.K. version, you can't force chemistry. The U.K. version works so well because they have been at it for 15 years now. The current group of presenters has been together for 7 seasons.

The Australian version finally got that hint and this season is honestly, the best one yet. The U.S. guys aren't trying to mimic it and they do have a decent number of presenters. The U.K. producer is also impressed that they managed to sign Tanner Foust and he wonders why the U.S. version even needs a Stig with that level of driving talent in one of the presenters.

I saw Tanner Foust at a Rallycross event last weekend. I actually got a chance to talk to him shortly (thanks for sneakin' me in VIP, Freddy!) and he's excited about it too. He gets mad at people like you who won't even give it a chance before they've ever seen one second of the show. I don't blame him one bit either. I'd be livid if it was me in his shoes.

I'm looking forward to it and I promise you, I'll be glued to the tube watching the new version just like everyone else. I can't wait and from what I've seen I'm very excited! I hope it takes off so I can get to California for the chance to be in the studio audience!

Jstas. That is the point I was making. I am a car guy more than you could possibly imagine.

I am giving it a chance. Just hopeful that they make it a show worth watching.

I watched the show that Tanner hosts on Speed called Supercar Challenge. Frankly since it is sponsored my Michelin it is rather bias to the cars that wear that rubber and to make people watch the show they make the showdowns about equal.

I'm sorry but when you have a ZR1 vs. Viper, there should not be much of a showdown.

Despite my screen name, these two cars should not have been as close as the TV show made them.

I saw a preview of the 1st episode today. There will be a 'moonshine challenge' having to do with the beginnings of NASCAR.
I predict they don't make it 6 episodes.

I'd bet you dollars to donuts they make it well past 6 episodes. The name alone carries it a couple of seasons.

And I'll watch this out of sheer curiosity...

    That's a pretty funny read.

I am really looking forward to this show. I can't wait to see the chemistry that develops between these guys over the episodes. Not only that, but I do hope they do something similar to the "Star in a Resonably Priced Car" bit. I think I saw something similar to that on the show website. Overall, my DVR is set to record this starting Sunday and I hope it lasts a while.

Stuff seemed too staged to me, awkward dialogue all over the place. I admit that having more relevant cars might make this appealing, but in the end I don't want to see people flogging things like Chevy Malibus. It's all about exotics, and goofy English humor. Or humour. Hah.

I prefer the slightly slower and less ADD oriented style of the original one as well. The really quick shots, pans and zooms that we normally have here make it really difficult to appreciate the lines of a nice car.

And make no mistake, this is not similar to the UK version, it is the same show with different people.

It reminds me of the fact that there is a US version of "The Office", but that made a bit more sense to me, as some people had a hard time understanding the actors accents. But the top gear guys are very easy for anyone to understand.

    My $.02.
