Good piano player with (to me) an irritating array of vocal mannerisms. Great sounding albums, though, with good playing. I have one of them (Love Songs? I think that's the title). She's seriously overhyped if you ask me.

On the plus side, she's Mrs. Declan McManus!

I don't know what it is about her ouevre that makes you want to try her... if it's great female vocalists (but in more of a folk or "adult alternative" mode than lite jazz), I'd encourage you to try these folks. www.thewailinjennys.com

And, she is also married to Elvis Costello!! Bigamy rocks.

Every SACD of hers I could find I bought (4), and like. If you like this type of music/singintry the try Tierney Suttom Dancing In The Dark on SACD.

She is crazy talented , and not to mention beautiful. Her voice is sift yet powerful and full of range.
her music is a mix of jazz , old classic big band style with a touch of today.

When I was in your shoes I picked up "The Girl in the Other Room." No reason other than it's just the CD I happen to buy. It was good enough that I've since bought 4-5 others.

When I Look in Your Eyes although The Look of Love is my favorite due to the orchestra. Since Christmas is around the corner, you may want to try Christmas Songs for the usual Christmas jingles and the wonderful "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" and "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep".

For a DVD concert, try Live in Paris on DTS.

Thanks for the pointer for Tierney Suttom....nice sound.

Another similar jazz singer is Jane Monheit: Come Dream With Me wish it was in SACD, but the DVD audio or redbook CD should be a good choice.

As far as Krall album it would be hard to choose. I have totally enjoyed all I own....great recordings and voice.

I found, for my taste, that setting up a pandora channel on her delivered some better volcalist but not quite the piano playing. I wonder if she has instremental discs or has some guest singing on some of her albums. I'm not saying she's a bad singer, I'm saying her piano playing exceeds her vocal abilty.

    Go. You'll dig the music.
