    Hi All

Slightly off topic....What is fair market value for unmodified 2.3tl's, condition about a 9?

It looks like he got the discount by just asking for prices. Once I know what to order, I am going to call them.

    Hello Paul,

Good to hear from you! Yes, I still have the 3.1's and they are A-ok. Still in the same condition as they were when you left them behind! I have the 2.3's all upgraded and kind of hate to get rid of them too! But, it these 2.3tl's are in good shape, which I hope they are, then I will probably have to get rid of the 2.3's at some point.

Paul, would you mind checking out that auction on e-bay to make sure on that interconnect cable, just to make sure. I just searched SDA.

    Thanks

    Cory

Yeah, I saw that auction and almost bought it for the hell of it. Nice price and it is a pin-blade that would work fine with those 2.3TLs.

Hopefully I will not be sorry with the Daytons on the lows. On my 2.3's, they are all Dayton caps and Mills reistors and they sound great after their break in period. I have a pair of 3.1 TL's that I bought modified with Sonics, I am not sure I can hear a clarity difference. I thought I would try the combo though as I have read many posts about members doing this and they were happy with the results. Zardoss has all Daytons on his and he is happy with his.

I did not ask for the discount from Sonic, I just mentioned the Polk forum when I was talking with Elliott. Maybe this was the reason?

I have Daytons on the lows on my 1.2tl's with great results!!!

Maybe I will change them out and do a comparison between the two.

Some make it sound as though I will be sorry. Others say they are happy with the Daytons. I hope I am making the right choice, but down the road I could change them too, if I am not happy.

Dayton's, Sonic, Clarity, all better than stock, Capacitors have come a long way since then and those old stock capacitors are tired. I believe Polk used the best most cost effective ones at the time though.

That is how I am looking at it, people still talk how the TL's sound so great even stock and can't imagine how they can get better.

I must say, when I first listened to my 2.3, unmodified with the SL2000's, I was disappointed in their perfomace, in fact I wished I would not even had bought them, but they were in such good shape. So, I upgraded them and used all Dayton's and I must say they will rock the house. They do sound great, but I hope the TL's even sound better.

let us know what you think when you get them both "equally" modded, burned in and have spent ample time A-B listening.

If I never jumped on this site and said I just got my new 2.3TL's, or looked them up, I would still be in bliss with them in stock form and powered with a 100w Onkyo receiver.

One of the first suggestions was to upgrade the tweeters and update the crossover. Knowing how much better these sound then my old Dahlquist, I found myself wondering just how much better they would sound after spending $500 on updates.

So far I have spent $2500 on new gear to power them. I guess it comes down to, where am I at on the curve of diminishing returns. Do I stop here, or continue up the curve until my list of modifications exceeds the maximum post size?

Thats up to you, For me it was getting into other speakers rather than keep modding my 2.3tl's, there are all kinds of speakers out there and it seemed foolish to stop on the SDA's.

    Hello,

I received my 2.3 TL's recently and they are completely pulled apart to start the modifcations. The question I have currently is what to use to glue the sides of the speakers on. The adhesive that was used was coming loose and the sides were starting to come off the cabinet. I am just going to recloth everything, so I pulled them off and cleaned the adhesive off the cabinet and the board the screens are on. Is it best to use construction adhesive or maybe contact cement? Please let me know what has worked the best and easiest for everyone.

    Thanks

    Greetings!

There is nothing special about the glue. Any construction adhesive will work. Congrats on your 2.3's. I upgraded mine years ago and they sound fabulous. Good luck!

Ok, another question I thought of. Should a person use the "3M" spray adhesive everywhere the cloth is against the board for the sides, or just where it wraps around by where it gets stapled? I would tend to thing that spray adhesive would penetrate through the cloth, messing it up. I have not pulled the cloth of the boards yet to see if they were sprayed everywhere underneith or not. Any suggestions here?

no just on the back side edges, I just used glue around the edges in a thin bead. a glue that stays tacky and workable for a few minutes and superior hold.

    Cramer1 -

If you get a chance, you may want to purchase an RD0194/198 Tweeter upgrade, which one you get will depend on what the 2.3s will support. You can call Polk Audio for further details. Also, you will want to seal your PR, woofers and tweeters with Mortite. Its cheap and simple to do. And you will want to add Dynamat to dampen the woofer rings and PR. All of the upgrades will make a REMARKABLE improvement to your speakers.

Congrats on your purchase and upgrades.

Cramer1- Have any pics of the disassembled speakers?
I'll be doing work on my 2.3TL's in the future, and every bit of knowledge helps.
