Question on Wall and Ceiling speakers
I haven't put together a surround system before, so I have a few questions. I think I have settled on the TCi series speakers. The ceiling in my room is 2x2 acoustical tiles (drop ceiling). Is it possible to install in ceiling speakers in these tiles? Due to the ceiling, a fireplace, and a projector screen, I don't have a place for a center channel speaker unless I get an acoustically transparent screen. Can a ceiling mounted speaker such as the TC80i serve as a center channel speaker?

I wouldn't put a speaker on a 2x2 tile, but if you need to I would put a little bigger 3/4" plywood above the rack so the speaker is connected to this and not a tile. IMHO.

Yeah, those tiles aren't very strong, you'd want some sort of reinforcement."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

What about using the ceiling mounted speakers as a center channel?

I wouldn't go ceiling center unless it's a last resort. The speaker are firing down instead of toward the listening area. I have a bedroom setup where the L and R speakers are ceiling mounted, but my center is under the TV. It works for the bedroom, but it's still not ideal.

can you access the joist above the ceiling?

yes, I can access the joists. The drop ceiling is under the truss supports for the floor above.
