Get The Flu Shot.

I sat around Beijing for a year waiting for the H1N1 virus to arrive? No flu shot. Nothing happened. There was no real FLU epidemic of any kind in China last year?

It's really crap shoot. My feeling is that, if you're at RISK, and I mean EXTREME RISK....like a flu might kill you? Then get the shot. But as said, there ARE NO guarantees because those little viral boys and girls mutate, mutate, mutate. SO those shots probably won't save you even then?

I think that is fairly sound advice cnh. The flu is unlikely to kill you unless you are elderly or immuno-compromised, etc.

The reason H1N1 scared the **** out of everyone was completely normal healthy 20 and 30 somethings contracted it and died. We aren't used to seeing completely healthy young adults catch a virus and die despite treatment.

The main utility of the flu shot tends to congregate around those who wish to minimize their chances of getting severely-ill (for healthy people, that could just mean missing work for several days, which could be a big deal for some), if they contract the flu.

And the people who work with/around at-risk people because you may carry the flu (or be mildly sick with it) and transfer it to a frail, loved one. I assume most of you would want to avoid feeling guilty about potentially bringing a flu virus to your sickly, cancer-afflicted grandparent. The transfering of flu from person-to-person in the at-risk population is why healthcare workers need to get it, its less about keeping yourself healthy.

I got mine two weeks ago. My job gives them out for free. I work in a building that employees too many people that bring in all kinds of crap to work with them. If I did not work around such a large population of people every day, I probably would not get one.
