If your considering getting a flu shot then do so.Ive had this nasty little bug for a week now and I have to say I havent been this sick since the 80s.
Its so damn bad I lost my voice the last couple days from the coughing fits that happen all the time.I have never lost my voice.....
Its even so bad that Ive had a brand new power supply and geforce GTX480 sitting in the newegg box for about a week now with no desire to swap out the old PS and vid card ....yet.
Chicken noddle soup every day for over a week is getting boring. Not to mention all the meds to reduce fever, coughing and help me to sleep, and Im sleeping a lot.

GET the shot. You will wish you did if you get this bug.

Oh, BTW, I'm still using the video card you sold me. Upgrading already??!!

Had it already (the cold that is). It is a pretty horrible one. I'll pass on the flu shot though.

    Same here Christopher!

I even brag about it, hoping I'd 'jynx' myself and get sick but nope...only been sick once in my entire LIFE! (that I can remember) Guess all that playing around in the dirt and such when I was growing up helped! So did all the shots I constantly got being a military brat just to later join the military myself (and got even MORE shots) :p

and what's purposely infecting you with last year's strain going to do for this year's? I've never had one since a kid and I haven't had the flu yet. When I was a kid, we got it every year and I got it every year... coincidence? I'm good but thanks for the concern! :D

    No flu shot for me.

I work for a large enough company that we have our own nurse. She distrutes flu-shots every year and it is free for employees and their families. She has never had one even. Personally, I rarely ever get sick, but I would rather get sick once every 5 years and know my immune system is working rather than take shots to eliminate the need for an immune system.

No allergies, no nothing. I pull poision ivy with my bare hands and burn it in the fire. I could roll cigars of it and not have a problem.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I've only gotten a flu shot twice and both times I ended up getting the flu about a week later. No thanks.

Aside from that, all sicknesses are constantly evolving and finding ways around vaccinations. As others have mentioned, a vaccination for last years flu isn't going to necessarily help you with this years flu. You're better off letting your own immune system take care of it IMO.

I won't ever get one again. I rarely get sick...and as others have stated, I'd rather let my own immune system take care of it, than weaken my immune system with vaccinations. I'm pretty well against just about any vaccinations though.

I'm too young to be getting the flu shot, and they always require me to take off my tinfoil hat. I don't want them injecting me with some radioactive junk.

Just wanted to point out that the flu shot isn't merely last years flu virus. It is a combination of various strains of flu virus that appear to be the most likely to occur this year.

While the H1N1 vaccine has been added to this years flu shot (which is similar to one you may have been offered or received last year), the three strains of flu virus in this years vaccine differ from the three strains you would have gotten from the flu shot last year.

Not picking on anyone, just trying to clarify for those that might want the flu shot.

I honestly don't know what's worse, people who think the flu shot is some vast government conspiracy, or people who insist you have to get it.

Based on this thread, it's a dead heat.

I guess I've been lucky so far. IIRC I've only had one flu shot in my MANY years when I just happened to be in a place they were giving them for free. That was several years ago and I have never had a serious case of the flu. In fact I haven't missed more than 3-4 days of work due to illness in the last 20 years or so. No reason not to get them other than I just never seem to get sick.

Now that I've posted this I'll probably get one of those "knock me on my **** for 2 weeks" flu.

yeah, you don't want the crap that's going around. I caught that, then got another bug that's settled in as either bad bronchitis or mild pneumonia. Been sick nearly 3 weeks now, but at least I'm not running a 102 temp any more.

eh I get sick a lot and got the shot at work. We get them for free too and what not. Plus working in an office building we are more prone to catch everything anyone else is carrying around due to all the passing of files, papers, food, etc around so I got it.

Also if there is a chance of me missing work for a few days because of being sick, no thanks, I don't like to come back to a pile of papers (files) on my desk to go through as I'll never leave...
