SC-07 Audio Failure

Well my tweaking of my new stadium seating speaker settings are on hold for 2 - 4 weeks until my SC-07 is fixed. Saturday night, just before sitting down to watch a movie with the family, I ran a MACAA calibration for an alternate sub location. The calibration ended and I was in the process of changing volume level of the surrounds and suddenly there was a very loud buzz in both surround speakers for a half second, then all went silent. One of the lights on the front panels was blinking, which according to the manual, means something major has gone wrong. All the other functions are OK. Video plays fine, but there is no audio from any setting or the test tones. It's completely silent. Fortunately its under warranty yet from BB so I took it in to get serviced and now have to wait 2 -4 weeks for repair.

Anyone had this type of problem??? There's no static in the house. I assume it could have been an arbitrary failure, but any other thoughts ???? Thanks

Actually had you posted I could have told you how to reset it. It's just a glitch in MCACC and requires a hard reset. Next time post up and I'm sure someone can help you before you tear down your setup.

The amount of knowledge here on PF is ridiculous! That's what makes this board so awesome! :D

I had the same issue with my B&K before it was upgraded that was always fixed by a hard reset. It's something you should try right off the bat when weird things like this happens to your AVR or Receiver.

Sherardp - Why not just tell him how so the next person can know if they search for this problem or Pioneer?

    Sure Doro, no problem

    Hard Reset

you can "release" the error by pressing the "down arrow" and the "zone 2
    on/off" for 2 seconds

if the error comes back then more than likely the amp block has failed
and it will need to be replaced/serviced.

For service modes and I can verify this works. DO NOT GO IN THERE CHANGING ANYTHING IF YOU ARE CLUELESS AS TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

to get into service mode (tested and verified on sc-07 not sure bout sc-05
but should be bout the same architecture and platform)

turn off any multizone and lower the master volume all the way down (---db)
    then power off.
from here on all actions should be done from the front panel

when in standby, press and hold the "enter" key and "multizone on\off" for
about 5 sec or so. the receiver will power up and the lcd display will be
blank. release the keys and the display should be in the first section in
    service mode

    general service mode notes
exit service mode - press power button or the return key
the ere are no pretty menus or headings, it's all pretty basic
if there are no key press within 10s then receiver will return to normal mode.

service mode sections - there are 3
1- version (various reports on software/hardware and firmware versions)
2- protect (various reports of DC events)
3- download (upgrade firmware and software components)

navigating through the menus (using the direction pad on the front)

moving from one section to a next is done by hitting either the left or right
arrow. the top item in a section will be displayed.

move through a section with either the up or down arrow (the sections are
linked and can use the up and down arrows to go through every item)

Version section - item | on front disp (results may vary) | explanation
    1/4 MAIN/EVENT microcomputer | M1.000 E1.000 | M#.### = MAIN E#.### = EVENT
(will also be the first item seen on the front display when entering service
    mode)
    2/4 DISPLAY (EMMA) microcomputer | DISP 1.000 | DISP#.### = DISPLAY microcomputer
    3/4 DSP/HDMI microcomputer | D1.000 H1.000 | D#.### = DSP H#.### = HDMI
    4/4 1ST DSP/2ND DSP FIRMWARE | f1.000 s1.000 | f#.### = 1ST DSP s#.### = 2ND DSP

protect section - item | on front disp (varies)
    1/11 # of times DC is detected | DC : 000
2/11 # of times OVERLOAD is detected | OVER: 000
3/11 # of times COMBINATION is detected (simultaneous detection of both
    DC and OVERLOAD) | CON : 000
    4/11 # of times FAN error detected | FAN : 000
    5/11 # of times OVERHEAT is detected | TEMP1 : 000
    6/11 # of times abnormal temp is detected | TEMP2 : 000
7/11 # of times abnormal temp at PowerAmp supply detected | BTMP : 000
8/11 # of times defect at PowerAmp supply detected | BERR : 001
9/11 RESET error counters | RESET <HOLD> | RESETS all the error counters
use left and right arrows to change option - <HOLD> = no changes -
<CLEAR> = resets counters | "enter" to select front disp will read RESET
[RESET] when completed and will exit to normal operating mode
10/11 show accumulated time and RESET | 12345h30m<HLD>
use left and right arrows to change option - <HLD> = no changes - <CLR> =
resets time count | "enter" to select front disp will read 0h om <RST] when
completed and will exit to normal operating mode
11/11 Set timer of Exception "Set Stream Path" command on CEC Control |
EX> SSP<600ms> | has to do with the error control on HDMI (??) timing
can be changed. (need an HDMI spec expert to weigh in)

    download section
basically all the microprocessors can be updated from this page.
Process uses a crossover cable to the rs-232c port. need a few
versions of UFU (unified firmware updater) for the various chips.
not much here unless someone reverse engineers the pioneer parts ala
CHDK... so unless some gets their hands on official firmware it pretty
much SOL... the freescale procs maybe a different story, though
some challenges there are made for a different forum...

item | part | manufacturer (not verified)
    1/7 MAIN | PEG489B8 | pioneer
    2/7 EVENT | PDC179A8 | pioneer
    3/7 DISP | UPD61111GM-100UEVA | pioneer
    4/7 DSP | PEG396A | pioneer
    5/7 HDMI | PEG118A | pioneer
    6/7 1st DSP | DSPA56720AG | freescale
    7/7 2nd DSP | DSPC56371AF180 | freescale

firmware extensions - *.mot and *.sz0 (the *.bcd extension in the HMG
update is a bit different. would need some more info to understand its
relationship to the rest of the components but it looks like only *.bcd files
can only update network related components, hence the HMG update.) on
the surface the other firmware needs to be updated through the serial port
on the back. would need to dig a bit to get a clearer picture, but on face
value its not a good use of time. sometimes its best to turn off the hacking
thoughts and enjoy the shiny toys and use them for what they were built
    for...

I just checked with BB on the status of the repair and was told it arrived at the Chicago service center and they're awaiting receipt of a new main circuit board. Apperantly there was a catosphic failure of some sort in the main board so they're replacing it. I'm trying hard to assume they know what they're doing........

Its easier to replace than look for the real answer with the BB service center. A new board will resolve the issue because it will have the same outcome as resetting it.

I sorry to hear your SC-07 has failed. I have many out in the field and own one myself. No failure of any kind yet.

The hard reset looks interesting , I may have to perform it just to learn it so if I run into this in the field I'll have something else to try.

    Thanks for the info
